Selling a mobile home in California does not have to be a difficult process. First-time home buyers often look to mobile homes as a economical way to break into home ownership. Young families, empty nesters and retirees are attracted to move-in-ready homes. With careful preparation, presentation and a good price, it is possible to sell a mobile home in a reasonable amount of time.


Instructions


1. Evaluate the mobile home. Decide what repairs and renovations are necessary. Write out a list and adjust according to the budget.


2. Hire a home inspector specializing in mobile homes. Incorporate his recommendations into your renovation plan.


3. Call the local power company for a free energy audit. For example, Pacific Gas & Electric (PG&E) will do an inspection, give you energy-saving suggestions and, if you are income eligible, make free repairs and even replace windows and old appliances. The local water company may have free water-saving shower heads and other water-saving suggestions. If there is an income-eligible tenant renting the property, PG&E will provide the same services even if the owner is over the income limits.


4. Clean the mobile home thoroughly. If you are removing the carpets, do that first since there will be a lot of dust. Wipe every wall and clean every surface. Take down the light fixture covers, wash and dry them and then replace them. Clean out closets and change the light bulbs. Add stick-on touch lights if there are no lights in the closets. Wash all the windows, inside and out.


5. Remove about three-fourths of your possessions. Put them in storage. Mobile homes are perceived as cramped and dark. By clearing out most of your furnishings, you open up the space so buyers see themselves in a nice little home instead of a trailer.


6. Replace the appliances. A new stove, refrigerator, dishwasher, washer and dryer pull first-time buyers in to view the property. If the counters are ugly, replace them too. There is no need for granite and expensive appliances; buy a matching set of mid-range appliances from a well-known brand and install simple counters in a neutral color. Repair and paint the cabinets if necessary.


7. Install laminate or engineered hardwood floors. If the paneling and wallpaper are dated, remove or paint in light colors. There are new textured wallpaper products that are relatively easy to install and paint over, providing an entirely new look to the interior.


8. Rejuvenate the exterior. Power wash the outside of the mobile home, the porch and deck and the driveway. Paint the steps, porch and exterior if necessary. Pull all weeds and replenish the gravel in the landscaping. Add potted plants or plant trees and flowers. A simple fountain in the garden or on the deck is a nice finishing touch to a garden.


9. Discuss your plans with the park manager. Obtain the latest park rules and all written materials regarding selling homes in the park. Be aware that any buyer must be approved by park management before the sale.


10. Hire a realtor. Provide a written list of all the repairs and improvements that were made to the mobile home. Take at least 10 clear pictures of the mobile home for the listing. Buyers want to see the kitchen, the bathroom, any improvements, the flooring and the view. They are also interested in amenities, local schools and public transportation. A well-drawn floor plan is a plus.

Calculate A Mortgage Payoff Amount

Selling a home is a lot of work, but you have a buyer and he is ready to close. When the attorney or Title Company begins gathering information to effect a closing, a correct payoff amount is imperative. "Shorting" payoff to the lender will not induce them to release their lein so that the new buyer can close with a clear title. There is no room for error here. The payoff must be calculated precisely.


Instructions


Paying off your mortgage


1. Present your account information to the Real Estate agent. If there is no agent involved, find out who is closing the loan for your buyer, and have him provide you with a form for information release. This will enable him to speak to your lender on your behalf to request a payoff of your mortgage. Provide the closer with all account information and phone numbers for lender contact. Some lenders are very slow to provide payoffs while others will only mail out the payoff, so be sure to provide this information early. If you are not selling your home and there are no closers or agents involved, you can call your lender and request payoff based on a particular date yourself. Be sure to ask for the amount of your escrow balance, too.


2. Follow up with the closer to find out if the payoff has come in. In calculating the payoff, the lender will include all interest days in the month of payoff, down to the date they receive your payoff. Watch out for surprises, as she will also include late fees (if any) and any other charges she deems credible. It is recommended that you have a copy of your note, and go over the payoff. Call your lender to question them for descrepancies.


3. Locate a calculator, and using the balance on your last statement, add the per diem (daily interest costs) accrued for all of the days until the lender actually receives payment. For simplicity's sake, let's say you are closing on May 15, and the balance on May 15, was $50,000, and your interest rate is 6%. Use the balance amount X 6%, which will give you a yearly amount of $3,000. Divide this number by 365, which gives you $8.22 daily interest. Interest is paid in arrears, so you need to be certain that May's payment was posted. May's payment would cover April's interest due, so you would owe interest days for 15 days in May. Remember that you have to cover all the days until they receive your payoff, so look at a calender, and count 15 days then add 6 more days just to be sure.


That adds up to 21 days X $8.22 per day, which totals to $50,172.62 for payoff. If the lender posts your payoff earlier, he will owe you, and will send you the overpayment.


4. Compare your own calculations with lender payoff to see if they come close to matching. If they are not even close, check the payoff statement to see why. Your Note (which you were given at your last closing) will detail exactly how the loan was set up and scheduled. It will tell you if there is a prepayment penalty instituted, and when it drops off. If there is a prepayment penalty, you will need to find out the amount, and add that to your payoff amount.


5. Check with your lender to get a balance on your escrow account. If you pay a portion of your taxes and insurance with each payment, there will be a balance of these funds accumulating each month. Lenders do not subtract this amount from your mortgage balance, so it will be sent to you after they receive your payoff and close out the account. If you have an FHA loan that is being paid off, ask your lender if you are due any proration of the MIP (Mortgage Insurance Premium). There is a form for that request, so be sure to ask for it. If you have a conventional loan with PMI, (Private Mortgage Insurance), ask the lender if you will be due any portion of it.

Instructions


1. Get a copy of the license application packet from the NY Department of Health Division of Home and Community based care. 2. Fill the licensing application out completely. The license requires the facility name and the head of the facility's name. It will require the number of beds that you plan to be licensed for. 3. Design a floor plan and a fire safety escape plan. Attach this to your application along with the times of your last three fire drills. Have this plan approved by your area agency case worker. Describe how you are fire-safety compliant and attach this to the license.


4. Attach the job descriptions of everyone who works at this facility. Attach all trainings that they have attended and make sure their trainings are current with New York state standards. Submit the Administrator and new staff qualifications also. Submit a copy of your staffing schedule.


5. Describe the service program including your activity programs and your levels of care at your assisted living facility. Attach this to the license as well.


6. Send a copy of your assisted facility license application to the New York Department of Health Division of Home and Community-based care. The state department will contact you and let you know when they will come to tour your facility and examine your books. Your books will need to be up to state standards and you will need to be in compliance in order to be licensed.


7. Attend the licensing appointment with the state. The licensing appointment with the state will take between two and four hours. The licenser will walk through your facility and look at your books. They will then write up a statement of anything that you need to correct at your facility. Once this is done the state of New York will send you a license for your assisted living facility. This license will need to be renewed yearly.

Can You Repair a Cracked Slab Foundation?


The foundation of your home transfers the weight of your house and everything inside it (including you) to the rock or soil that's underneath it. The maintenance of your foundation is extremely important, because the safety and stability of your home can be compromised if the foundation gets damaged. Does this Spark an idea?


Preventing cracks


Concrete is a strong building material, but when it's used as a foundation for a house, it can develop cracks over time. These cracks can be caused by things such as extreme temperature changes (and the resulting freezing and thawing of the ground); changes in ground moisture, which causes soil to swell and shrink; soil moving beneath the foundation; and seismic events (which don't refer to earthquakes in this case, but intentional blasting done to clear rock in a quarry, or seismic testing done during oil and gas exploration). While you won't be able to stop seismic testing or blasting, you could go to court to try to get the companies involved to pay for any repairs. There are some steps you can take to prevent cracks from beginning, however. During a dry period (when the ground would shrink as moisture disappears), water the lawn around your house in a uniform pattern to help maintain the stability of the soil. Make sure that the ground on the surface is higher than the surrounding ground so that water drains away and doesn't pool against the foundation. And don't plant large trees or too many shrubs close to the foundation, because the root systems can remove too much moisture from the soil, or even push against the foundation and damage it.


Repairing cracks


If you do wind up getting a crack in your foundation, the good news is that you can fix it fairly easily. The first thing you should do is determine what exactly is causing the crack. (For this you might want to hire a a company that handles foundation repair work.) Use a hammer and chisel to make the crack at least an inch deep, cutting underneath the sides of the crack, and then remove all the dust and debris with a shop vac. Mix up some concrete patching compound, and use a trowel to fill the crack with the patching compound. (Overfill the crack a little bit as you do this, and use the trowel to wipe away any excess material, making sure that the patching compound is even with the surface of the slab.) To help the patch cure, lightly sprinkle it with water several times a day for about a week, then cover it with concrete sealer.

Mobile hardware tools help you diagnose problems or retrieve lost data.


Mobile devices range from cell phones to smartphones to PDAs (personal digital assistant). And, when something goes wrong with these devices, you need the proper tools to run diagnostic tests on them to help you locate where the problem is and maybe even help you fix the issue. To use a test jig, you have to remove your cell or smartphone from its casing, exposing the printed circuit board (PCB) of the phone. You then plug your phone into the test jig, which will run diagnostic tests on the phone. It will check for things like the overall performance of your device and will also check your device's voltage. Voltage refers to the force needed to move an electrical current from one point to another. If the voltage is too low, your device isn't getting enough current. Once the test jig runs the diagnostic tests, it will output what is wrong with your device. You can then use this information to look up the repair steps recommended by your equipment manufacturer. As of October 2010, these devices cost between $50 and $100.


Mobile Recovery Software


The Mobile subscriber identity module (SIM) Card Data Recovery software program allows you to pull data off of your cell phone even if you cannot get it to turn on. Instead, the program will pull your data off of your SIM card, which is the small card that stores the data for your cell phone. It can retrieve your data even if you accidentally deleted it or your hardware completely failed. This program can also recover data lost to viruses. It uses a graphical user interface (GUI), which allows you to run commands using radio buttons and check boxes. The Mobile SIM Card Data Recovery software program is compatible with different Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM) SIM card readers, and it is compatible with Windows 98, 2000, Server 2003, NT, Me (Millennium), XP, Vista and 7. This is a free program.


Repair Kit


To get your mobile device open, you need a set of screwdrivers and prying tools. Generally, these toolkits come with both Phillips and flathead screwdrivers. The prying tool allows you to get covers off and circuit boards out of your phone. These tools also usually have magnetic tips, which allows you to hold onto small screws and cell phone parts without dropping them onto circuit boards as this could damage your phone. Invest in a set that comes with its own carrying case, which will allow you to keep all of your tools together. These kits range from $5 to $20.

There are few things that can ruin a day faster than a clogged drain, especially in a bathroom. Whether it's caused by a build up of hair, grease or an errant toy, drains sometimes require more than a simple plunger to unclog.


Most plumbing experts advise against using chemicals to unclog drains--and if the clog is big or solid enough, it wouldn't work anyway. A plumbing snake is easy to rent. Even a novice can use the tool. Does this Spark an idea?

Which Type of Snake?


Before you call a tool rental place, figure out which type of drain snake you'll need. A cable auger, or plumber's snake, with a hand crank is great for most typical drain clogs. Homeowners might want to purchase one of these; at $25 or under, they're inexpensive and handy to have around.


For toilets, rent a closet auger. It's angled to fit through toilet traps and also comes with a hand crank. Expect to pay $40 or under to purchase one, or less to rent.


Major clogs, like tree roots or clogs far away from the access point, call for an electric power auger. These tools require more skill. Before you leave the rental place, learn get the snake back to the machine. Electric power augers cost about $30 to rent.


Home Improvement Centers


These days, just about everybody has a big home improvement center near them, such as Home Depot. Most of Home Depot's stores include a tool rental center.

If there's no home improvement center nearby, look for a local tool rental place. The easiest way to find one is to use an Internet search engine. Type "rent plumbing snake" and then your city or zip code. A list of possibilities will appear.


Look through several listings to find the best price and deal. Some places will rent by the half days, while others only do full day but charge more. Local tool rental centers often post their prices online.


While a few tool places have online reservation options, most require a phone call and a credit card number to reserve the item.


Prices vary by region. For example, rental prices in Honolulu are about double what you would pay in Maryland.

5. Negotiate the leasing contract. Decide on the average number of miles that you drive in a year. Grants For Seniors In Georgia

The federal government, state governments and private organizations provide various types of grants to improve the lives of the elderly. Senior citizens who have reached retirement age and have low income or no income at all qualify to receive these grants. Applicants must provide documents such as income tax returns, pay slips and other information to substantiate their claims.


Public Housing Grants


The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) provides public housing for senior citizens, low-income families and disabled individuals in all states, including Georgia. Public housing authorities are eligible to receive grants to help them provide all of the services senior citizens need when living in public housing. HOPE VI is one of the grants that this department provides. Although seniors are not the direct recipients of this grant, they receive the benefits of this grant when living in public housing. HOPE VI provides funds to make physical improvements, make management improvements, and support social and community services to address the needs of senior citizens who live in public housing, according to the information provided by the HUD. To find out more about this program, you may contact your local public housing agency.


Education Grants


In Georgia, senior citizens who are 62 years of age and older are eligible to receive government and nongovernment education grants. Many universities in Georgia do not charge any tuition to senior citizens who want to finish their education. The Primetimers Tuition Waiver Program of Georgia Perimeter College gives senior citizens the opportunity to start and complete an associate degree for free. Part of the requirements for admission include that the applicant must have completed at least 12 credit hours. To apply, senior applicants must submit immunization documents, transcripts of records from high school, GED records and a college university transcript. Although the grant provides free tuition, seniors must pay for their own books and technology fees.


Consumer Discount Grant


Discount grants on consumer products are available to help senior citizens from less-privileged households. The state of Georgia offers discounts in the purchase of natural gas, which seniors may use for cooking and heat. The Lifeline Assistance Program in Georgia offers seniors a $13.50 credit on monthly telephone bills as of 2011. These grants are available through the cooperation of local utility companies. If the senior citizen has an electric bill in his name and his household income (or the income in the household in which he lives) is less than $21,600 per year, he is eligible to receive a 6 percent reduction of electric bills.


Federal Grants


The federal government offers grants to elderly members of the community to help them pay for expenses related to their health and other daily needs. Federal grants also include housing and education benefits, as well as health care. Some of the federal grants available to senior citizens in Georgia are the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program, Senior Companion program, Tax Counseling for the Elderly program and Weatherization Assistance program.

Deduct Capital Improvements

If you make capital improvements to real estate you own---an improvement that substantially adds to the value of a building you use for business or rent out---you can claim it as a deduction. You can't, however, take the entire deduction off your taxes the same year you make the improvements. Instead, you have to depreciate the improvement investment over the years. Repairs, on the other hand, can be deducted in the year that they're made and many people try to claim improvements as repairs. The IRS has instructions on differentiate the two.


Instructions


Deducting Capital Improvements


1. Determine whether your project is an improvement or a repair. Legalmatch.com says an improvement adds value to the property, prolongs its life or adds a use---a hot tub on the deck, hurricane shutters, a new garage. Repairs don't add to the value of the property but keep it in good operating condition. For example, fixing a roof after a storm counts as a repair; installing a new roof is an improvement, according to the IRS.


2. Keep and file receipts for everything you spent on the improvements. This includes supplies, rental trucks and whatever you paid to hire workers for the project. These figures, totaled, are the costs you will be able to amortize over the next three decades.


3. Find the depreciation period. The IRS says that for residential rental property, the depreciation is 27.5 years; for nonresidential property, it's 39 years. There are several exemptions for special classes of property so it will be necessary to go over the IRS guidelines to get a definite timeline.


4. Apply the depreciation formula. There are several different formulas, one of which is straight-line---deduct equal amounts off your taxes in each year---and others which have the largest deduction the first year, then smaller deductions as the time goes on. The IRS website provides requirements and recommendations for the right one to use.

Removing Bead Method Hair Extensions


The bead method of hair extension is often known as "cold fusion" or by proprietary names such as Euro Locs and is one of the most popular strand-by-strand extension methods that utilize I-tip hair strands. Removing beaded hair extensions is often simple, though with time and improper care, your natural hair can become quite entangles in the beads and extensions, so it's important to remove the extensions within four months of wear. Removal Tools


The attachment beads used for hair extensions are made of a metal, most often copper or aluminum that has been coated in enamel for color matching. The interior of the connector bead is sometimes cushioned with silicone or threaded like a screw for grip.


The tool that is needed to remove the connector rings is the same tool that was used to attach them. Often called a pro-release or connector clamp, the tool is similar in shape and function to pliers, but has flat interior edges interspersed with curved areas to fit many the many extension bead sizes. If you are planning to remove the beads at home, a pair of needle-nose pliers will suffice. Be sure to have a fine tooth comb available to work out any bits of beading and to condition and comb through your hair once all extensions have been removed.


Removing Each Strand


Begin at the top of your hairstyle and select a beaded strand to remove. Hold the strand away from the head so that you have a clear view of the bead. Note which way the bead has been flattened. Grip the strand of the extension hair firmly, placing your thumb and forefinger approximately 1/2 inch away from the bead. Place the bead between the prongs of the release tool and carefully apply pressure to the widest ends of the bead. Keep in mind that you don't want to apply so much pressure that you cause the bead to close in the opposite direction.


The bead will usually open easily, allowing the strand of hair to be removed, and the bead itself to be slid off of your existing hair. Occasionally, the bead will bend or twist, which requires repeated squeezing and changing directions with the removal tool until the bead breaks or crumbles. Then the bits of the bead must be removed from your existing hair before combing.


After removing each strand, comb the length of the existing hair to remove any of the aforementioned bits of bead or pieces of the extension tip, which may have crumbled during bead application. At this time, do not comb hair at the scalp, as new growth and shedding may have caused tangles, which will have to be worked out after all beaded extensions have been removed.


Detangling and Finishing


Once all the extensions have been removed, you may notice cushioned areas of your hair, which are matted sections of new growth and shed hair that have tangled. Don't simply try to brush through the tangles but instead work on them gently.


Wet the hair and apply a thick conditioner, kneading conditioner into the matted areas with your fingers. Allow the conditioner to sit for as long as you like. Select a section of hair that is matted and use a fine tooth comb to work through the tangle from length to scalp. Do not be alarmed at the amount of hair that may show up on your comb. At least 100 strands of hair are shed each day, and what you are seeing is all of the shed hair that has been held in place by the extensions.


Once all of the tangles are combed out, rinse, wash and recondition the hair. Allow hair to relax for at least two weeks before applying another set of beaded extensions.

Use A 10 Gal Tank For Compost

Food scraps can be composted.


Compost is scraps that have been broken down by decay and turned into rich matter for the garden. Compost is often formed in a large pile in the yard. If you live in an apartment or want to have compost inside, smaller compost bins can be made out of many different items. Using a 10-gallon aquarium for your compost can make a good option. Other containers that work, if you do not have an aquarium, are cat litter buckets, old totes or garbage cans. The glass tank makes it fun to look inside and see what is happening. Instructions


1. Cut the nitrogen and carbon materials up into small pieces. The smaller they are, the faster they will decompose. Mix the materials together. You want a carbon to nitrogen ratios of 25-30 to 1. Some items already have both. Leaves have a ratio of about 60 to 1 and grass clippings 19 to 1.


2. Make a compost lasagna. Add 1 inch soil to the bottom of the tank. Add about 2 inches of the organic waste from step 1. Sprinkle with fertilizer if you do not have enough nitrogen matter. Cover with an inch of soil. Water enough to make the mixture like a damp sponge. You should be able to feel the moisture, but not squeeze any out.


3. Place the earth worms on top. You can get the worms from your garden or from a fish and tackle store. They will dig down into the lasagna and eat the waste matter between the two layers of soil.


4. Place the tank in a shaded location where it will remain at room temperature. It should not be in direct sun.


5. Mix the mixture weekly. This will aerate the compost, helping it to break down faster. You can also add more organic matter, if you want. Or just let it break down further.


6. Harvest. Be patient. It will take a while to break down. Your carbon to nitrogen ratio, how much you broke down the material, how often you turn the pile, if you continue to add matter, and how warm the pile gets will all be factors in how long it takes to break down. Once the mixture has become compost, you can harvest it and put it on your house plants, in your garden, or make compost tea.

Diy Refrigerator Repair

Old reliable?


The refrigerator is one of the few appliances that never sleeps. While refrigerators of old lasted about 15 years, today's modern versions conk out soon after the five-year warranty expires. With some do-it-yourself repairs and maintenance, a homeowner can extend the life of a refrigerator another five to 10 years. Does this Spark an idea?


Drains


Cleaning the drains periodically is an easy project that can make a big difference in the efficiency of your refrigerator. Clear any clogs with a piece of flexible wire coat hanger. Using hot water, flush the area with a turkey baster. Pour a small amount of bleach down the hole to kill any mold, then reflush.


Gasket Repair


Before tearing off a slightly damaged door gasket, try this easy repair. Open the door and tape a sheet of wax paper to the area where the gasket would meet the refrigerator if the door was closed. Close the door and draw a bead of silicone caulk over the damaged area of the gasket. With a wet cloth or paper towel, wipe off the excess caulk, cure the patch overnight and carefully remove the wax paper.


Install a New Gasket


If the gasket is too damaged, installing a new one can be done competently by even a novice do-it-yourselfer. Loosen the screws in the metal retainer under the gasket until the lip of the gasket can be removed without tearing. Slowly pull the lip from under the retainer until the gasket is removed. Starting with the top of the door, press the new gasket under the rim of the retainer and work it in along the perimeter of the door. Smooth out the gasket, then tighten the middle screws on each side. Tighten the remainder of the screws to hold the gasket in place.


Body Work


Exterior chips and scratches may not affect the efficiency of the refrigerator, but they can make a kitchen appear rundown. Repairs can be made with an epoxy kit available at home improvement or appliance stores. Clean the chipped area with soapy water, dry it, then sand it with medium sandpaper. Mix a 50/50 solution of the hardener and color in the repair kit and brush it on.


Use automobile rubbing compound to get rid of light rust on the exterior of the refrigerator. It will rub away the stain without ruining the paint.


Clean Coils


To reduce the chance of compressor failure, unplug your refrigerator, move it away from the wall and vacuum the coils. Some refrigerators have a small grill in the front that can be snapped out and cleaned.

Fix Internet Explorer When It Is Opening Automatically

Internet Explorer may begin opening windows automatically due to bad settings, damaged software or malware installed on your computer. If Internet Explorer is opening windows automatically, it may be difficult to reach other functions of your computer in an effort to repair the problem. Since there are various different causes for this problem, there are also a number of solutions.


Instructions


Resets and Repairs


1. Disconnect your computer from your Internet connection. The easiest way to do this is simply to unplug the cable before starting the computer. If your Internet connection is wireless, disable your wireless card. Once your computer is disconnected, restart it. This may stop Internet Explorer from automatically opening windows on a temporary basis while you troubleshoot the problem.


2. Start your computer in Safe Mode if Internet Explorer is still opening windows that prevent you from troubleshooting. To start in Safe Mode, shut your computer off. Turn it on and immediately begin pressing the F8 key about once a second until you see a menu. Your mouse won't work, but your arrow keys will. Highlight "Safe Mode" and press Enter. Do not choose "Safe Mode with Networking."


3. Open the Control Panel. In Windows XP, you can reach the Control Panel by clicking "Start" and choosing "Control Panel." Open "Internet Options." On the "General" tab, click "Delete Cookies." Click "Delete Files" and choose to delete offline content. On the Security tab, click "Default Level" for your Internet zone. On the "Privacy" tab, click "Default." Check "Block pop-ups" and click "Settings." Click "Remove All" and "Close." On the "Programs" tab, click "Manage Add-ons." Disable any add-ons (if you find that an add-on has caused the problem, you may remove it and leave the other add-ons enabled). On the "Advanced" tab, check "Reuse windows for launching shortcuts." Click "OK."


4. Open "Security Center." Set "Firewall," "Automatic Updates" and "Virus Protection" to "On." Note whether your virus protection is up to date. Reconnect to the Internet and see if the problem persists.


5. Repair Internet Explorer if possible. The repair process may require either your original Windows installation disk or a copy of the Windows installation files on your hard drive. Most major computer manufacturers provide you with one or the other. Once you've completed the repair process, restart your computer and test to see if Internet Explorer no longer opens windows automatically.


In Windows Vista, open the Control Panel. Choose "Internet Options." On the "Advanced" tab, click "Reset." Click "OK." This option may also be available under Windows XP, depending on your version of Internet Explorer. If so, try it before using the separate instructions for repair under Windows XP.


In Windows XP, click "Start" and choose "Run." Type in "sfc /scannow" without the quotes. Click OK. If you are prompted for your installation disk, provide it.


Malware Infection


6. Run a full scan of your computer with your anti-virus software. If your anti-virus software is not up to date, try to start your computer normally or in "Safe Mode with Networking" and update it. If you're unable to get Internet Explorer to stop opening windows long enough to run the update, boot to Safe Mode to run your anti-virus scan.


7. Run an anti-malware scan like Spybot Serach & Destroy or Ad-Aware. If possible, update your anti-malware product before running the scan. If you don't already have a malware scanner installed, download and install Spybot Search & Destroy from Safer-networking.org or Ad-Aware from Lavasoft.com.


If you can't use Internet Explorer for this purpose but can still access the Internet (i.e. you're able to use Windows without being in Safe Mode), press Window-E on your keyboard to open Windows Explorer. Enter the web page for one of the anti-malware tools in the Address bar and press "Enter" on your keyboard."


8. Restart your computer and test to see if your Internet Explorer is still opening windows automatically. If so, an IT professional may be able to manually clean out or disable the malware causing the problem. If you don't wish to invoke an IT professional, back up your data and re-install Windows.

Diy Concrete Driveway Repair

An old, cracked driveway can be repaired by most homeowners.


Concrete driveways often crack and begin to look old. When they do they often drive down the appearance (and sometimes the value) of the entire property. While it can be a big and very labor-intensive job, repairing a concrete driveway is not beyond the scope of most able-bodied homeowners. With the right supplies, a helpful assistant and just a few tools, most homeowners can repair their own driveways, saving themselves money in the process. Does this Spark an idea?


Instructions


1. Wash the driveway using a power spray nozzle. Remove as much old and broken concrete as possible as well as removing dirt and other debris. Use a stiff brush to remove any lose concrete in cracks.


2. Fill hairline cracks by mixing water with concrete dressing (a powder available at hardware stores and home improvement centers) at the rate of four parts of dressing to one part water. Force this mix into hairline cracks with a putty knife, smoothing the top with your knife as you complete the repair.


3. Fill larger cracks, up to 1/2 inch wide, with concrete repair caulk. Squeeze the caulk into the cracks with a caulking gun and then smooth the surface with a putty knife or trowel.


4. Mask all expansion joints with duct tape. Expansion joints are 1/2 to 1-inch-wide spaces between sections of cement to allow the cement to expand and contract with changes in temperature. Expansion joints are typically filled with felt or wood. Expansion joints must not be filled in when the driveway is resurfaced. Do not allow the tape to extend more than 1/8 of an inch onto the concrete on either side of the joint.


5. Pour 2 1/2 quarts of water into a five-gallon bucket and then add in a 20 pound bag of concrete dressing. Mix well using a 650 rpm 1/2 drill motor and concrete mixing paddles. Mix for two minutes (until smooth) and then remove the paddles and set them in a bucket of clean water.


6. Pour the dressing onto the driveway, starting at one end and working toward the other and smooth it out with a long-handled squeegee. Work quickly as the cement will set within 30 minutes. Once the concrete is smoothed out, use a push broom to add texture to the surface so it is not slick. Have an assistant mixing a new batch of concrete dressing while you are smoothing out and texturing the first batch.


7. Add more and more concrete as you move down the driveway, squeegeeing and texturing with the broom as you go. Work quickly and keep the various batches of concrete looking smooth and even. Remove the duct tape from the expansion joints as you finish texturing the concrete on both sides of the joint.


8. The new driveway surface can be walked on in four hours, but should not be driven on for at least six to eight hours.

Recovery From Collapsed Lung

Collapsed lung, also known as atelectasis, is a condition characterized by partial or total inability of a lung to inflate properly. It has a number of potential causes, including lung tissue compression (pneumothorax) and obstruction of the lung's bronchi, or air passages. Recovery from a collapsed lung varies with the initial source of the problem.


Recovering From Partial Lung Collapse


According to the New York Times Health Guide, if you have a partially collapsed lung that does not hinder your ability to get adequate air, your doctors may decide that the best course of treatment is to give the lung time to repair itself. If this is the case, your recovery will mainly consist of rest and the use of supplemental oxygen while the situation responsible for the collapse resolves. In some circumstances, small amounts of air or fluid causing pneumothorax can be removed with a needle. If this is true for you, you may be allowed to leave the hospital afterward and recover at your home. However, in cases where your lung collapses enough to restrict your airflow, you will require inpatient treatment. If your lung collapse is total, you will require emergency care.


Recovering From Total Lung Collapse


In the aftermath of treatment to re-inflate your lung, your doctor may suggest use of a device called an incentive spirometer. This specialized breathing device is designed to encourage progressive improvements in your lung function. To use a spirometer, you blow slowly and strongly into a tube attached to a readout that graphically represents your lung function. The readout also allows you to set a target for desired lung function that you strive to reach in the course of individual sessions with the device. At the end of each exhalation, you will hold your breath as long as you can then rest and start the next exhalation. Your doctor will determine how many repetitions of this exercise you perform at a time. Typically, you will do a session with the spirometer once an hour throughout the day. Afterward, you will be encouraged to cough and make sure your lungs are not clogged. You will also be encouraged to become physically active as soon as possible.


If you undergo surgery as part of your treatment for lung collapse, you will also need to recover from the effects of your operation. Your healing time will vary according to the particular procedure used to repair your lung. If your lung difficulties are related to the development of a tumor, surgery will possibly be followed with chemotherapy, radiation therapy or both. Recovery in this case will be more difficult to judge, as your health and healing will likely be greatly affected by these treatments.


The Possibility of Recurrence


Be aware that part of your recovery may involve watching for signs of a recurring lung collapse. Factors that increase the possibility of recurrence include ongoing smoking and two or more previous collapses. You are also susceptible to recurrence if you are both tall and thin. Consult your doctor for further details of the recovery process.

Become A Home Appraiser In Texas

Home inspectors are responsible for discovering needed repairs and determining the value of a home.


A home appraiser is responsible for reviewing a home that is placed on the real estate market in order to determine its value. As an appraiser you will determine the current condition of a home, the type of neighborhood the home is in and whether any repairs must be done to the home. Normally an appraiser is hired by a lending company, and in the state of Texas you are required to undergo specific training and obtain licensing before you can begin to appraise homes.


Instructions


1. Find an appraisal sponsor that is a general or residential certified appraiser through the Texas Appraiser Licensing and Certification Board (TALCB) if you have no experience as an appraiser. In order to find a certified appraiser in your city, check with the TALCB Appraiser List, (Reference 2). Contact as many appraisers as necessary until you have found one that is willing to sponsor you. If you have experience in the real estate industry, view the Reference 3 to see if your experience qualifies you for a license.


2. Sign up at an appraisal training school, such as the Champions School of Real Estate (Reference 3). The Texas Appraiser Licensing and Certification Board states that you must undergo a total of 75 hours of training in three main courses, which include: Basic Appraisal Principles, Basic Appraisal Procedures and the National Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice (USPAP). This training package is available at the Champions School of Real Estate, and as of 2010 the price for this training was $771.


3. Submit the Appraiser Trainee Application (Reference 4), after you have completed your appraiser training courses. As of 2010, this application requires you to have the signature of your certified appraiser sponsor as well as a $150 fee. This application can take up to 15 business days in order to be processed. After the TALCB has approved your application, your appraiser trainee authorization license will be mailed to your sponsor's office.


4. Work as an appraisal trainee with your sponsor for at least two to six months to gain real-world experience in the field. The TALCB requires you to record all your work experience in the Appraisal Experience Log, which can be found at the TALCB website. Submit this log to the TALCB when you apply to become a state licensed or certified appraiser.


5. Upgrade your status from trainee to state-licensed appraiser after you have gained several months of experience with your sponsor. You must take an additional 75 hours worth of training in the following courses in order to apply for the appraiser license: Residential Market Analysis and Highest and Best Use, Residential Appraiser Site Valuation and Cost Approach, Residential Sales Comparison and Income Approaches and Residential Report Writing and Case Studies.


6. Fill out the Application for Appraiser License (Reference 4). This application can only be submitted after you have undergone the additional training outlined in the step 5. As of 2010, you must include a total of $335 with this application ($285 to obtain your license and $50 for the national registry) and include your Appraisal Experience Log sheets. The TALCB will inform you whether or not your application was approved within 20 business days. Your license will be mailed to you, and you will be able to legally appraise homes in the state of Texas.

Many people have a need for caregivers from the elderly to the il to the mentally disabled. Caregivers, also known as companions, home care aides or personal attendants provide a number of services to their clients and in doing so they help to make day-to-day life easier for their client and their client's family. A caregiver job can require all types of work and skills from physical labor to the ability to think on the spot. It requires hard work, but is very rewarding.


Job Responsibilities


When working with the mentally disabled, caregivers will be performing a number of duties on a day-to-day basis. These duties include planning and preparing meals, helping clients get dressed and accomplish simple personal hygiene tasks, taking clients to the grocery store, on errands and to the doctor, helping their client clean the house and perform household chores and more.


Work Environment


The work environment depends greatly on the caregiver's client. They may be working for individuals in their homes which can be clean and orderly, or messy and in need of repair. They can also work through an agency in which they travel to nursing homes and group homes to provide assistance to their mentally disabled clients.

Government Grants For A Rural Housing Remodel In Washington State

Washington grants can fund rural home remodel, renovation and repair.


Between 2000 and 2008, the median household income of rural populations across the U.S. decreased while, at the same time, the rural poverty rate increased by almost 2 percent. In Washington state, more than 800,000 citizens live in rural areas and 15 percent of rural Washingtonians fall below the poverty line. When it's a challenge to keep your family's basic needs met, home repairs can fall by the wayside. Luckily, several grants help fund home remodel, renovation and rehabilitation in rural regions of Washington.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Rural Development Office for Washington state offers home repair grants for rural residents. Grants can range up to $7,500 and can be used to pay for projects such as "repairing roofs, heating, electrical and plumbing systems, water and waste disposal, installing screens, windows, insulation and other steps to make the home safe," according to grant guidelines. Eligible applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents, make less than 50 percent of the county median income, own and occupy the property to repaired or be a senior over age 62.
