The Colorado Department of Labor and Employment estimates that the workforce in Colorado Springs will grow approximately 8 percent from 2009 through 2019. This growth should create 24,000 new jobs in the city during that time frame. In addition to traditional, four-year colleges and universities like the University of Colorado and Colorado Technical University, Colorado Spring serves as home to four career colleges. Pikes Peak Community College
Accredited by the Higher Learning Commission, Pikes Peak Community College is a public institution that opened in 1968. The college offers more than 125 associate degree and certificate programs, including some in uncommon fields like zoo-keeping technology, sign language interpreting, recreation technology and farrier science. In addition to traditional classroom-based courses, Pikes Peak features online, television and video-conference courses for distance education. The college participates in federal and state financial aid programs and offers a limited number of work-study placements and institutional scholarships. Colorado residents receive tuition discounts. Everest College
Everest College opened as Brown's School of Business in 1897 and became part of the Everest nationwide network of private postsecondary schools in June 2006. The college has its accreditation through the Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools. Students at the school can opt to pursue certificates and associate degrees in accounting and business, administrative assisting, computer information science, dental and medical assisting, paralegal studies, massage therapy and medical billing. IntelliTec Medical Institute
Founded in 1966 as the PPI Health Careers School, the private career college IntelliTec Medical Institute adopted its present name in 1970. The school has its accreditation from the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools. The programs at the college culminate in certificates and diplomas and usually last less than one year. Courses of study include dental and medical assisting, massage therapy, medical laboratory technology, personal training and medical administrative assisting. Eligible students at IntelliTec Medical Institute can benefit from federal loans and grants, work-study, veterans' benefits and occupational rehabilitation grants to help offset the cost of tuition. Remington College
Remington College is a nationwide, private career college with a branch in Colorado Springs that has accreditation through the Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools. At the school, students can opt to earn an associate degree in criminal justice or diplomas in medical assisting, pharmacy technology or medical billing. Most programs at Remington include a brief externship, allowing students to gain hands-on experience in their chosen fields of study. Online courses are available.
