Weatherization Assistance Program
The Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP) is sponsored through the Department of Energy, in which grants are provided to homeowners to complete projects that make their homes more energy efficient. WAP approves construction projects for insulating windows, changing heating systems, building walls and repairing and replacing roofs. These improvements are provided to lower-income homeowners for free. However, the project's total cost must be limited to $6,500.

Very Low Income Housing Repair Program
The Very Low Income Housing Repair Program is funded by the Department of Agriculture in order to assist very low-income and inner city communities with the repair and remodel of homes that are considered to be safety and health hazards through grant money. Grants provide funds for the cost to renovate, rebuild and repair homes from the inside out, including problem roofs. To be considered, candidates must demonstrate a financial need and be 62 years or older. Recipients of this grant are restricted from selling their homes for three years. Doing so may required the grant to be repaid by the homeowner.

Energy Efficiency Improvement Program
The Energy Efficiency Improvement Program is managed by the Department of Agriculture to award grants for the installation of solar panel roofs. The program's goal is to provide affordable renewable energy choices to small and large agricultural and rural businesses. The grant helps ranchers and farmers to reduce their consumption and energy costs by providing the necessary funds to replace roofs with energy efficient panels. The grant may fund up to 25 percent of the total project costs.
