Diy Concrete Swimming Pool Repairs

Keep your swimming pool in good shape by repairing cracks.

Having a swimming pool can be a blessing during the summer time, but if your pool needs repair, it can put a damper on the fun. Your concrete pool was built to withstand intense pressure as well as large amounts of water, but at some point it may crack. When you see this happen, it is important to repair the damage as soon as possible. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Drain the swimming pool so that you can easily access the damaged areas. Put on safety gear, including heavy-duty gloves, safety goggles and face mask and keep them on for the remainder of the project.

2. Clean out all of the debris from the pool floor so you can start the project off with a basically clean surface.

3. Prepare the grinder. Attach the blade to the grinder, and then plug it into the nearest outlet. Be sure there is no water on or around the outlet.

4. Place the blade in the crack, turn the grinder on low, and begin widening and deepening the crack. Make it a few inches wide and deep.

5. Wipe away the concrete dust and put the grinder away before you soak the area with the hose.

6. Mix three parts Portland cement and two parts sand with the dowel in the bucket. Add water when needed to loosen the mix but do not make it loose enough to drip. Portland cement is a hydraulic, water-resistant cement made from pulverized calcium silicates.

7. Fill the hole with the compound using the putty knife.

8. Trowel over the surface to remove excess compound and make it smooth. Allow 24 to 48 hours for the repair to fully harden and cure before refilling the pool.
