Prepare For A Computer Repair Test

There are many computer certifications to show potential employers and clients that you are capable of performing computer repair. Passing the exams that bestow these certifications enhances your resume and makes you more likely to find employment, possibly at a higher wage. You can do many things to prepare for these exams.

Instructions

1. Read whatever you can find pertaining to the exam you intend to take. Every certification exam comes with study materials, but there is a wealth of other information available. Visit the library, search the Internet and read magazines devoted to computer repair.

2. Take practice exams. You can purchase books filled with practice tests, but the Internet offers free practice exams for most certifications to those willing to look.

3. Research new computer technologies as they become available. While this may not be a requirement on every test you take, the computer field is constantly changing. A technician must be familiar with the new devices and technologies that are always being released. Blogs and computer magazines are great sources of information.

4. Practice whenever possible. Take computers apart and put them back together again. Infect a computer with as many viruses and spyware programs as you can, and then try to remove them. Format the hard drive and reinstall the operating system. There is no substitute for hands-on training.

5. Form a study group. Quiz each other on the facts that you will need to know. Create problems on computers, swap them and see if you can fix them. Discuss methods and resources and learn as much from the others as you can. It is especially helpful to work with people who have taken the exam before and know what to expect.
