Legally Get Out Of A Contract With The Threeday Law

You are entitled to cancel trade show purchase contracts within three days.

Buyer's remorse is an unfortunate reality of the world of commerce. Advertising and sales pitches are calculated to appeal to the emotions rather than the mind, and it's easy to get so swept away by the allure of a product you fail to evaluate a purchase thoroughly. The Federal Trade Commission, as well as every state, has created laws that let you escape a purchase contract within three days of its signature.

Instructions

1. Write a letter to the seller stating that you want to cancel the contract. The letter must be dated and include the name and address of the seller, along with your return address. The body can be as simple as the following: I am canceling the contract of [whatever date] for the [whatever product or service.]

2. Sign the letter and make a copy of it for your records.

3. Fax or hand-deliver the letter to the seller by midnight of the third day after contract signature. If you sign a purchase contract on July 15, your cancellation letter must be received by the seller by 12:00 midnight of July 18. If you choose to fax, confirm the letter was received.
