Polish marble with powder.
Marble is an attractive stone that is a luxurious decorative addition in homes and commercial buildings. It is a strong and durable stone, yet its surface area is somewhat delicate. Marble polishing powder is an effective cleaner that you can use to remove etches in natural stone. Etches are dull areas in the surface of the marble caused by contact with acidic substances like cleaning products, orange juice, tomatoes, soda pop and other chemical compounds. Polishing powder can restore the marble by removing the acidic residue and eliminating the etches. Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions
1. Clean the marble area. Use water and mild liquid dish detergent to wash the surface of the marble. Add a half cup of liquid detergent to one gallon of warm water for the best results. Clean the marble surface with a soft cotton cloth or cotton fiber mop. Avoid using any chemicals during the cleaning process.
2. Sprinkle a light dusting of marble polishing powder on the marble surface. Commercial marble polishing powder can be purchased at a local hardware store. Apply powder only to the dull etched area. There is no need to apply the powder to the entire marble surface because undamaged areas won't need the treatment.
3. Mist the lightly powdered area with water. Use a mister bottle filled with warm water to spray the powder. Choose a "light mist" setting on the nozzle of the spray bottle. Do not use a strong jet-like stream of water or the marble polishing powder will dissipate.
4. Rub the marble polishing powder into the stone. Choose a soft damp cotton cloth or a non-abrasive buffing pad to rub the damp powder into the etched area of the marble. Use light circular motions to clean the dull areas on the marble surface. Avoid using a large amount of pressure to polish the area.
5. Continue buffing the surface area until the dull etch marks fade. Add more marble polishing powder and re-mist the surface for difficult etches. Repeat the circular motion buffing until the etch marks fade away.
