Repair A Rewritable Dvd

Repair a rewritable DVD (CD-RW).

You can repair a rewritable DVD (DVD-RW) by using items found in the cabinets around your house, such as rubbing alcohol, furniture polish and toothpaste. Although you might have to go to the store to pick up one of these items, you should be able to find most of these items lying around your house. Once you repair your rewritable DVD, be sure to copy its data to your computer in case the DVD becomes unreadable after further wear and tear.

Instructions

1. Apply rubbing alcohol to a soft cloth and then rub the cloth in a circular motion on the surface of the DVD. Move from the inner to the outer edge while doing so. It should remove the dirty smudges from the DVD. Allow the rewritable DVD to air dry before using it in a DVD player.

2. Polish light scratches and scuffs on a rewritable DVD using furniture polish. Apply the furniture polish to a soft cloth and then rub the cloth in a circular motion on the surface of the DVD. While polishing, start at the inside edge of the DVD and move to the outside edge. The polish will fill the scratches and make it easier for a DVD player or computer to read the rewritable DVD. Refer to Step 1 to clean the rewritable DVD before using it in a DVD player.

3. Squirt the toothpaste onto a soft cloth and then rub the cloth in a circular motion on the surface of the DVD to buff out moderate scratches from a rewritable DVD. The gritty texture of the toothpaste will aid in removing the scratches from the DVD while polishing. Polish the DVD, starting at the center of the disc and moving towards the outside edge. Refer to Step 1 to clean the rewritable DVD before using it in a DVD player.
