HUD offers home repair assistance for low income home owners.
The United States Department of Housing and Urban Development offers grants and loans for individual's looking to repair or modernize their homes. Income eligible home owners may apply for loan assistance under HUD's home program. Applicants approved for this assistance can make home repairs such as weatherization, additions, access for disabled individuals and replacement of heating and cooling systems.
Instructions
1. Determine if you are eligible for assistance in home repairs by visiting HUD's income limits page provided in the Resources section. Choose your state and click on the PDF file. The document lists counties in your state and the maximum annual income allowed depending on the number of people in your home.
2. Once you have determined you are eligible, go to HUD's home page, also provided in the Resources section, and click on "State Info" and choose your state. On the left hand side, click on the link that says "Contact My Local Office." You will be redirected to a page that lists the offices in your area.
3. Call the office in your area to request an application for a low income home repair loan. Fill out each section in the application and attach any documents that are requested such as pay stubs or tax information. Thoroughly review the application and return the application to your local HUD office.
