Set up a computer business by deciding what types of services your business will offer.
Computers are essential in today's life, and as such the need for experienced computer technicians is growing. Conflicts arise everyday with business and personal computers and networks. Each computer needs diagnosed and repaired by a computer professional. This has made computer service businesses vital and profitable.
Instructions
1. Decide the types of services your business will offer, such as part replacement and virus removal. Consider selling new, used or customized computers. Determine how much to charge for the services your company offers and create a price list that is easily accessible by customers.
2. Find a reliable dealer from which to buy computer parts. Locate a reliable dealer from which to purchase wholesale parts for assembling computers yourself. Purchase enough cables, monitors, keyboards, power cords, routers and virus protection and removal software to get you started. You don't want to overdo it but you need enough to do business.
3. Create a name for your computer business and begin advertising. Create a professional website that makes a good impression. Create business cards and pass them out to organizations that many individuals have access to and that rely on computers such as your local tax office and insurance companies. Advertise with local newspapers, television and Internet to gain exposure for your computer business.
4. Complete all the legal steps necessary in order to set up your computer business. Get your computer business financed through low-interest loans and government-issued grants. Determine what type of business you are opening such as a sole proprietorship or partnership. Register your computer business with your state government. Get a tax identification number from the IRS and your state revenue agency. Register for state and local taxes and obtain the necessary business licenses and permits you will need to set up your computer business.
5. Keep your computer skills up to date with training from technical colleges. Learn to use new operating systems when they are released, or in beta (test) versions so you stay ahead of the learning curve. Visit computer industry websites--such as magazines, blogs and software companies--to learn about new computer technology and access computer resources. Attend technology webinars and watch computer television programs to gain knowledge on computers for setting up your business.
