Boy Scouts Blue & Gold Dinner Centerpiece Ideas

Cub Scout packs all over America celebrate the anniversary of the creation of the Boy Scouts of America with a blue and gold dinner. Add to the celebration with simple, creative centerpieces made previously by the Scouts. From simple floral arrangements to complicated treasure boxes, centerpieces can be customized to any theme or budget. Does this Spark an idea?

Yarn Bug

Scouts will enjoy creating these fun, funky centerpieces. Start by cutting a one-inch hole through the center of a ball of Styrofoam or florist's foam that is at least six inches in diameter. Cut blue and yellow yarn into one-foot lengths and lay the yarn in a bundle lengthwise. Thread one end of the bundle through the hole in the Styrofoam ball. Secure the yarn in place by filling the hole with liberal amounts of glue.

When the yarn is secure, glue the bottom of the ball to a cardboard square for balance. Arrange the yarn around the ball to make sure that it is entirely covered. Use pipe cleaners to fashion arms and hands by inserting one end of the pipe cleaner into the ball. Glue wiggly craft eyes onto the front of the yarn ball. Create a hat from blue and yellow foam pieces.

Lantern

Have the Scouts assemble an elegant table lantern from craft sticks, wax paper and gold foil. Paint 16 craft sticks blue and glue them together to create four square panels. Wait for the panels to dry. Assemble the panels next to each other on a long strip of wax paper and glue them in place. When the glue dries, cut away the excess wax paper and fold the paper together to draw the panels into a box shape. On the front of each panel, attach a golden fleur de lis.

Place a small, lit candle or glow stick inside the lantern for soft illumination.

Treasure Box

Assemble a small treasure chest from wood, foam, or cardboard. For an easy creation, have the Scouts use an empty tissue box and cut away the top. Create a lid by cutting two semi-circles that are as wide as the tissue box. Wrap a sturdy piece of paper or cardboard in a curved shape and glue, staple or otherwise attach the cardboard to the arches. Attach the lid and make a hinge by crisscrossing tape along the edges of the boxes.

Add character by layering the outside with craft sticks. When this is finished, paint the entire creation blue. Glue a button on the front for a lock. Trace a fleur de lis onto gold foil and cut out the shape. Glue this to the center of the front of the box. Wrap gold ribbon around the front of the box for an additional accent.

Fill the box with pony beads, chocolate coins, fake pearls, and other treasures.

Candy Bouquet

Use blue and gold candies to create a themed candy bouquet. Blue and gold candies can include rock candy, hard candy sticks, colored licorice twists, salt water taffy or homemade confections. If colored candy is elusive, wrap candies of any color with blue and gold plastic wrap or wrapping paper.

Insert a skewer directly into soft candies or tape candies to skewers. Fill the bottom of each vase with foam or decorative rocks to create a base to insert the skewers into. Decorate the vase with blue and gold ribbon.

Colored Flowers

Prepare these simple floral arrangements by placing flowers in water that contains a blue or yellow floral dye. The flowers will absorb these colors and the petals will slowly change colors. Insert a handful of flowers into a vase and decorate with blue and gold ribbon for a simple centerpiece.
