Repair Dvd Errors

Fix your DVD errors.

DVDs can have two different types of errors that could cause the DVD to perform incorrectly. A physical error such as scratches on the disc surface can cause the DVD to interrupt during viewing or not play at all. There are also errors on the DVD which cause a read error such as the DVD player not reading that there is a disc in the player at all. It is possible to fix some of the problems so that the DVD will play.

Instructions

Physical Errors

1. Clean the DVD with rubbing alcohol and a soft cloth, then try the disc and see if it will play. If the DVD is still unable to play, proceed to the next step.

2. Apply a quarter size of toothpaste to the DVD and rub around the disc using a paper towel. Add a spoonful of peanut butter to the disc and spread around. Wipe off the mixture with a paper towel.

3. Apply the toothpaste and peanut butter again and place into a plastic food container, then add ¼ cup of baking soda and a small amount of soda into the container then seal the top. Shake the container for about a minute then set aside for five minutes.

4. Open the container and remove the DVD. Clean the disc off with paper towels then a moist paper towel and allow to air dry. When it is dry, place in the DVD player and play.

5. Check the specifications of the DVD player you are using. If the player will not read a homemade DVD, then you may have to upgrade your system. The specification for the particular player will be located in your owner's manual or the company website.

6. Download DVD repair software (see Resources) based on your computer's needs. Always try the free trial first before purchasing software so you can make an informed decision. Click on the trial link and approve permission to download the software.

7. Install the software to your computer once the download has completed. Double-click the download then follow the install instructions given.

8. Open the new software and follow the instructions given to retrieve the data from the DVD. Select to "Import the DVD" and then choose to "Recode." Allow the software to work its magic, then burn the DVD again.
