Get A Tennessee Mobile Home Tie Down License

A mobile home tie down license is basically a license to install manufactured homes. In Tennessee, you must have this license to anchor and set up mobile homes, which must be done according to the State Fire Marshal code. Without the home being properly anchored or tied down, among other considerations, during inspection, the state will not allow the electricity for the dwelling to be turned on. This license must also be obtained by employees of licensed companies who will be on the site during the mobile home's installation. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Attend a required training course and take the necessary certification exam. Contact the Tennessee Manufactured Housing Association to learn the dates of the next available "15-Hour Initial Certification Retailer And Installer Course." The two-day, 15-hour course and exam is conducted at the Tennessee Fire Service & Codes Enforcement Academy in Bell Buckle, Tenn. Successfully completing the course and exam are a requirement before applying for the tie down license. The toll-free TMHA phone number is 1-800-989-8642.

2. Fill out a TMHA Registration Form and return the form to the Tennessee Manufactured Housing Association, at least two weeks prior to the class date. Include the appropriate fee, which includes a fee for the state exam. The total fee for TMHA members is $260, and $340 for non-members. Register and attend the class on the first day. Present a photo ID and take the exam on the second day. You will receive a certificate upon successfully passing the test.

3. Obtain a $10,000 surety bond. Issued by a surety company that is empowered to do business in Tennessee, a surety bond is a contract where you agree to pay a certain amount if you fail to meet certain obligations. The surety bond is a requirement when filing for the license, in the event that you, working as a licensed mobile home installer, do not comply with the State Fire Marshal code. Download and fill out a "Manufactured Home Stabilizing System Installer Bond Application" from the Manufactured Housing Section of the Fire Prevention Division website.

4. Download the application for the tie down license. Download the "Manufactured Home Stabilizing System Installer License Application" from the Fire Prevention Division website. Fill out and submit the application, along with a $25 fee, to the Commissioner of the Tennessee Department of Commerce and Insurance. Also, attach the bond application to the license application.
