A List Of Arizona Government Grants

If you're looking for grant funding in Arizona, consider government sources.

In today's uncertain economy, it can be difficult to find funding for programs and projects. Luckily, there are several government grant programs available in the state of Arizona. Grants range from drunk driving prevention initiatives, to after-school art promotion, to grants to rehabilitate homes. With a bit of research, you can find the Arizona government grant that meets your needs.

Arizona Criminal Justice Commission

The Arizona Criminal Justice Commission's Oversight Council on Driving Under the Influence Abatement offers grants for Arizona programs that work to reduce driving under the influence of alcohol and other intoxicants. Programs must fall into one of two categories. One provides enforcement, prosecutorial, judicial or alcohol abuse treatment services with the goal of reducing drunk driving in cars and motorized watercraft. Another program features new technology to educate and prevent drunk driving. Seventy percent of allotted funds are distributed to tribal governments or political subdivisions that enforce or prosecute driving under the influence. Funding is distributed in six-month periods. Remaining funds are allotted in one-year grant periods to organizations using new technology to prevent drunk driving. Grant applications are available online twice a year in October and April.

Arizona Commission for the Arts

The Arizona Commission for the Arts offers grants to schools, non-profit organizations, community and service groups, art festivals, arts agencies, after-school programs and artists. Grants funds can be used for general operating expenses or to provide direct arts experiences. According to the Commission's website, qualifying organizations and schools will operate programs that "support arts activities in urban and rural areas, preserve rich traditions of Arizona's communities, impact student learning, and encourage participation in the arts by people of all ages and abilities." Individual artists can apply for Artist Project Grants up to $5,000. From 6 to 18 artist grants are awarded each year. Artists can also apply for Professional Development Grants to fund activities that promote career advancement. Applications for artist and organization grants are available online starting in July.

City of Phoenix: Housing Rehabilitation

The City of Phoenix's Neighborhood Service Department offers several grants for housing rehabilitation. Grants are available to low-income residents. According to the City of Phoenix website, program's goal is to "help low income residents meet code requirements and improve the safety, comfort, appearance and value of their homes." Grants are available for emergency home repair, hardship assistance and weatherization assistance. Emergency home-repair grants provide up to $5,000 to be used for repairs such as lack of running water, lack of heating or cooling systems, hazardous electrical wiring and broken sewage systems. Hardship-assistance grants range up to $10,000 and can be used to fix damaged roofs, peeling paint and damaged exteriors. The grant is given in the form of a loan; no payments or interest must be paid unless the owners sell the house within 10 years of receiving the grant. The weatherization assistance program is available to home owners and renters. Grant amounts vary and must be used to save on energy costs and waster. Qualifying projects include repairing or replacing heating and cooling systems and improving insulation, weather-stripping and sealing. Grant applications are accepted throughout the year.
