Canadian Government Home Grants

The Canadian government has a wide range of grants available to homeowners.

The Canadian government has set aside millions of dollars to provide home grants to eligible homeowners. The purpose and availability of such grants vary from province to province. Many government home grants are aimed at increasing energy efficiency. Other Canadian government home grants are for more specific purposes such as remodeling to make a home disability-friendly or to make emergency repairs. Does this Spark an idea?

Emergency Repair Program

The Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) is a Canadian government-owned corporation that offers grants to low-income residents of rural areas for emergency repairs. Such grants are available across the country, though there are some differences in the program province to province. According to the CMHC website, the repairs must be related to specific parts of the home such as the chimney, foundation, plumbing and roof. The objective of the grants are to make the homes inhabitable. The amount of the CMHC grant depends on your location. In 2010 the maximum government home grant offered by the CMHC was $11,000 for those living in the most rural areas.
