Remove Self Stick Tile

Removing self stick tiles

Self stick tiles are great to use when decorating or finishing a room on a budget. Cost effective and quick to install, they provide a quick and inexpensive way to dress up a floor. Removing these same tiles requires a bit of effort, but can be done with a few basic household items and a visit to your neighborhood home improvement store. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Plug in your household steam iron. Place the sheet or towel over the self stick tiles you want to remove. Run the iron over the sheet or towel for several minutes. Use your long-handled scraper to scrape up the tiles. Be sure to wear work gloves when actually picking them up from the floor, as the heated adhesive may still be very warm. A heat gun may be used in place of the steam iron.

2. Repeat the above process until the self stick tiles are all removed from the floor. Apply Krud Kutter or a similar product that removes adhesive. Use according to manufacturer's instructions.

3. Use the scraper to remove all traces of remaining adhesive from the floor. Since the adhesive has been softened by using the Krud Kutter, the remainder of the adhesive will scrape up quite easily.

4. Wash the floor using a mop and an all purpose cleaning product like Pine Sol or Mr. Clean. Allow the floor to dry thoroughly before laying any additional type of flooring over the existing floor.

5. Dispose of your self stick tiles according to your city or town regulations on waste removal r recycling.
