The surface of a DVD should have no scratches or smudges.
It happens to everyone at least once: You stick your favorite movie into the DVD player and suddenly it no longer plays for you. The DVD either skips, freezes or sits there doing absolutely nothing. You take it out and try to clean it off with your shirt tail, but nothing works. Don't fret: There are two proven ways to repair a DVD with scratches and smudges (as long as the DVD is not severely damaged).
Instructions
Use Polish To Repair Your DVD
1. Dab a small amount of furniture or car polish on the end of a superfine or optical cloth.
2. Begin to rub the polish onto the bottom of the DVD with the cloth.
3. Move the cloth in a circular motion, covering every area of the DVD's surface. Repeat this step until the scratches begin to disappear.
4. Use Isopropyl alcohol to clean the DVD. Gently rub the surface with a fresh, soft cloth.
5. Rinse the disc with water, then let air dry for a few minutes.
Clean Your DVD With Toothpaste
6. Smear toothpaste on the bottom surface of your DVD.
7. Gently rub the toothpaste into the surface with an optical cloth.
8. Move the cloth in a circular motion until every part is covered with paste.
9. Let the toothpaste sit for a minute, then rub the surface again.
10. Rinse off the toothpaste. Use a cloth if necessary to help remove the paste.
11. Dry the DVD with a fresh, soft cloth.
