In contrast, a property owner who chooses to do the work himself can build a similar fence for around $590. The pricing website Cost Helper goes on to explain that a 300-foot fence with a pair of gates typically costs between $1,800 and $2,500 in materials and can cost as much as $3,300 installed, as of January 2011.
Labor
DIY Or Not explains that a professional fence installer can install 100 feet of chain link fencing in about seven hours, but property owners doing the work themselves may need more than twice as long. Typical labor includes post hole digging, mixing and pouring concrete to hold poles in place and applying the mesh fencing.
Tools
Though professional installers should already have the necessary tools, property owners who choose to install chain link fences themselves may find that tools increase the total cost.
