Apply For A Lead Paint Grant For Homes

Lead paint is a dangerous health risk and needs to be removed as soon as possible if it is peeling or chipping from the walls in your home. If you are not in a financial situation where you can effectively deal with the situation, there is no need to worry. The Office of Healthy Homes and Lead Hazard Control (OHHLHC) has grants that you can apply for, which will give you the resources to remove the harmful paint.

Instructions

1. Determine if your home contains lead paint by hiring a certified inspector. If your home was built before 1978, there is a chance that it may. Keep in mind that lead paint becomes more dangerous as it chips away from the wall.

2. Visit the HUD (Department of Housing and Urban Development) Website, listed as a Resource below. Here, you will find a list of offices across the country that have been put in charge of distributing grants that deal with removing lead paint.

3. Contact the office closest to you and set up a meeting. Tell them that you are interested in applying for an LHC (Lead-based Paint Hazard Control) Grant.

4. Fill out all forms and send them in as soon as possible. Make sure the forms fall under the category of the Residential Lead-based paint Hazard Reduction Act (Title X).

5. Call HUD at (202) 708-1112 with any questions that you come across along the way.
