Austin's Capital City Trade and Technical School helps students, who have an aptitude for mechanics, get started on the path to a more lucrative and in-demand career. Cap City offers three basic programs--automotive technician, drafting and CAD and heating/air conditioning. Civil, electronic and architectural drafting courses give students an overview of fields that are open to them. Free placement services help graduates secure a job. The heating and air conditioning program prepares students for a career servicing commercial and consumer refrigeration and heating and air-conditioning units. The auto repair technician program teaches students services brakes, engines, suspension and steering. The school provides financial aid and a drug prevention program for interested students.

The Southwest Institute of Technology
The Southwest Institute of Technology offers two diploma programs. The associates program in electronics technology teaches students the skills needed for electronics and robotics, for testing circuits and for measuring electronic instruments in the semiconductor, telecommunications and computer hardware fields. Southwest Institute's digital electronics courses focus on analyze and repair AC/DC circuits and other electronic components. The school also has a learning resource center, a computer lab and audio-visual equipment. The student services department helps students with financial assistance, educational counseling and off-campus housing.

DeVry University
DeVry University, the nationwide technical and computer school, has a campus on Research Boulevard in Austin. The College of Engineering and Information Sciences at DeVry offers bachelor's and master's degree programs in computer forensics and information systems security, among others. Prospective students can arrange a tour of the campus and meet with a counselor. The Austin, Texas DeVry has classes on campus. It is not an online school, but it does offer distance learning as an option in some courses. Tuition assistance, including grants, loans and payment plans, makes it easier for students from all walks of life to get a technical education at DeVry.
