Personal care services provided in adult family homes can be financed with grants.
Several government programs are available that provide grants to fund the operations of adult family homes, which are licensed residential homes that house up to six adults who need housing and help with daily living. Grants pay for medical equipment, food and other necessities. Funds also cover training programs for nurses to provide supervision, personal care and required medical care to the residents who live in adult family homes.
Rural Telemedicine Grants
The Department of Health and Human Services sponsors the Rural Telemedicine Grant program, which provides grants to improve health care services in adult family homes in rural communities. Grants are used for equipment purchases, salaries, operating expenses and travel costs. Funds also support training programs and research projects. Nonprofit organizations and public entities such as hospitals and community and faith-based organizations are eligible to apply for these grants. Funds are not eligible for equipment purchases exceeding 40 percent of the grants, land acquisitions or construction projects.
