"
Survivor" features competitive contestants in isolated, deserted settings.
"Survivor" became an overnight sensation in America when it first debuted in the summer of 2000. It has since spawned many seasons and party concepts in which guests watch the show or reenact the show's traditions and catch phrases. Guests can create tribes, vote each other out of the party, covet an immunity idol or head to tribal council. Colorful and tropical decorations add a touch of authenticity. Does this Spark an idea?
Decorations
Line the front path of your home with 16 burning tiki torches to create the hallmark of the "Survivor" look. Place several lit torches around the back patio or yard or, if in the house, place them against walls and in hallways. Make sure not to light them inside. Blow-up reptile dolls, such as alligators or snakes, or silhouetted cutouts of wild animals can add an ominous tone for your party. Serve tropical drinks from a rustic tiki bar and edibles from palm-leaf-covered tables. Guests may appreciate primitive-looking bamboo chairs or wooden barrels to sit on. If resources permit, consider visiting a landscape or garden center to locate a large tiki god statue to serve as the immunity idol and centerpiece of your party.
Survivor "Challenges"
No "Survivor" party would be complete without a challenge. Create a treasure hunt or scavenger hunt event in your yard, apartment or home. Use brown craft paper and singe the edges to create authentic-looking treasure maps that yield clues to hidden objects. Make an obstacle course in your backyard with mounds of dirt and planks of wood that guests must cross within a certain time frame. Supply party guests with a bandanna or buff and ask them to fashion imaginative or creative attire. Vote for the most clever use of the small piece of fabric. Provide bowls of gummy worms to the guests and see who can eat the most in two minutes.
Refreshments
Contestants on the show have to battle wits for the simplest of provisions, but that might not be the most appealing way to feed hungry guests. Instead, opt for delicious island grub like spiced pork with steamed rice and vegetables. Serve up lots of fresh tropical fruits, such as pineapple, mango, coconut and papaya, and munchies like macadamia nuts and Hawaiian sweet bread. Don't forget one of the most important things on the menu: tropical drinks! Serve mai tais, pina coladas and frozen daiquiris in plastic pineapple or coconut cups with a paper umbrella. Keep refreshing nonalcoholic tropical punches and coconut water on hand as well.
