Get A Rebate For Energy Star Appliances

An energy efficient refrigerator will save money in many ways, including a potential rebate.

The U.S. Department of Energy has approved millions of dollars to go to customers who buy energy efficient appliances in place of their old appliances. Each state has created its own rebate program. The program is also known as the "cash for appliances" program. With this program, you will be eligible to receive a $50 to $250 rebate. Getting a cash-back rebate from buying a new appliance can help you put money toward other needs. Though the rebate is targeted to continue until February 2012, you will want to take advantage of the program because the money is going quickly, and some states have already exhausted their rebate funds. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Review your state's guidelines. Check with your state's energy department for guidelines about the cash for appliances program. Be sure that you go to your state's Department of Energy to find out specific guidelines. These guidelines will include the time frame of when the appliance should be bought to qualify for the rebate. In general, anyone who buys an Energy Star appliance during the specified purchase time frame set by the state is eligible for the program.

2. Figure out what appliance you would like to purchase. Research and ask the store where you intend to purchase the appliance whether the appliance qualifies for the cash for appliances program, just to be on the safe side.

3. Purchase the appliance as soon as possible because the rebate funds are on a first come, first served basis. Follow your state's submission process to receive your rebate.
