Get Rid Of Scratches On Black Appliances

Get Rid of Scratches on Black Appliances

Installing black appliances is one of the easiest ways to quickly modernize a kitchen. Many times, black appliances are easier to keep clean because they don't show fingerprints or dust as easily. The appliance handles don't change to an ugly yellow like the handles on white appliances. However, just like any other appliance or household item, black appliances can get scratched during transport or accidentally in the home. When a black appliance is scratched, depending on the appliance and the location, there are usually several options for concealing or repairing the scratches. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Replace scratched handles on black appliances. Order and install a replacement part through the manufacturer. Handles are commonly scratched while transporting the appliance from the store to the home or while bringing the appliance through average-sized doorways. This is one of the easiest and simplest fixes. Scratches on handles are hard to conceal because they are usually accompanied by deep grooves.

2. Repair surface scratches on textured refrigerator doors with a black scratch repair pen. These scratch repair pens can usually be found at your local home development store or ordered online.

3. Touch up the scratches on black appliances with black appliance paint. Appliance paint is formulated differently than spray paint or other paints. Appliance paint will typically have the same glossy appliance finish as your appliances. If the scratches are on the oven hood or the oven, use the black appliance paint formulated for high-heat environments.

4. Spray a small amount of appliance paint on some wax paper if the scratch is small or thin and use a paintbrush to apply the black appliance paint inside the scratch only.

5. Remove the door or move the appliance to an outside area to sand large scratches and repaint the whole surface. Remove or tape off handles. Tape off any windows like an oven door. Sand the scratch to smooth the scratch's perimeter and sand the entire surface for better paint adhesion. Then paint the entire surface with black appliance paint.
