Grants are available for eco-friendly homebuilders who wish to help create a more sustainable earth
In an effort to improve the energy efficiency and environmental impact of homes, many environmental organizations and government programs are offering grants for building environmentally friendly homes or improving the environmental impact of current buildings. Anyone who wishes to improve the environment, either an individual homeowner or a non-profit organization, can apply for an eco-friendly homebuilder grant. Does this Spark an idea?
Building Healthy Communities Grant Program
The Home Depot offers grants to nonprofit organizations who propose community improvement projects such as creating affordable and energy efficient housing and improving structures to be more environmentally friendly.
Applicants are required to be community volunteers in the United States, and the project has to be completed six months after receiving notification of grant funding. Applicants can receive up to $2,500, and grants are given as Home Depot cards.
Enterprise Planning and Construction Grants
Enterprise through their United States based, National Green Communities program offers Enterprise Planning and Construction Grants to assist with the costs of creating buildings that are energy efficient and use green, environmentally friendly materials. Non profit organizations and public housing authorities are eligible to apply, and can receive from $20,000 to $75,000 in funding.
Applicants are required to complete a statement of how the grant money will be used and detail their background and experience in green construction.
Energy Savings Grants
The UK government offers grants to households for the improvement of heating and energy efficiency. Eligibility criteria differs depending on the country. One eligibility requirement for the The Warm Front grant in England and the Energy Assistance Package in Scotland is that applicants must be recipients of one or more government benefits, such as disability or child tax credit. Applicants for the Energy Savings Grant can receive up to £ 3,500 in funding.
ecoENERGY Home Retrofit Grant
The Canadian government offers Home Retrofit grants to homeowners who wish to make their homes more energy efficienct and environmentally friendly. Interested applicants must hire an energy adviser certified by Natural Resources Canada to perform an evaluation of their home's energy use and provide recommendations for improvements. Applicants can receive up to $5,000 per home, though property owners with multiple properties can receive a maximum of $500,000.
