Repair & Recharge A Window Air Conditioner

Re-charging of your window air conditioner is important to maintain its cooling.

Worried that your window air conditioner is blowing out air but not cooling down the room? The fan is working fine but the compressor won't switch on? Then it is most probably the time to recharge your air conditioner with refrigerant gas. For best results, your window unit requires a time-efficient and cost-effective recharge once every year. In other words, the operational/maintenance cost of these air conditioners is low whereas their functional life spans almost a decade. Use these steps to repair and recharge your window air conditioner successfully. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Place a clean rag on the floor to protect it from water spillage and dirt from the air conditioner. Switch the unit with from the main switch and remove the air conditioner from your window.

2. Take off the screws that keep the back metal casing fixed with a screwdriver. Slide the metal casing off of the machine. You should be able to locate the compressor once the casing is out; it is a metal cylinder with two pipes/tubes coming out of it.

3. Look at the compressor closely and locate the one pipe out of the two which is relatively larger in size. You will use this to recharge your window unit.

4. Get your refrigerant kit out and locate the valve connector which is relatively larger in size. Attach this service valve to the previously located larger hose of your compressor.

5. Attach the smaller valve connectors found within your refrigerant kit with the other respective hose of the compressor. These two should be smaller in size.

6. Switch the air conditioning on and set it to its maximum setting so as to start the flow of refrigerant.

7. Provide charging to the AC unit until the entire refrigerant can has been poured out. Detach the respective valves from the compressor hoses. Put the metal casing back and tighten the screws with the help of a screwdriver. Make sure that the screws are tight and the casing is well locked.

8. Replace the air conditioner back into your window. Repeat this process whenever your Window AC requires a recharge.
