Extending 118 miles from New York Harbor, with a total land area of 1,401 square miles, it is one of the longest and largest islands in the United States. Long Island rehabilitation programs include Cobble Hill and Ditmas Park in the Brooklyn boroughs, Eger Health to the west, and Glen Cove on the north shore.
Cobble Hill Health Center
The Rehabilitation Institute at Cobble Hill Health Center offers a wide variety of rehab services in orthopedic, neurological, vascular, dental, pain management and dialysis specialty clinics. The program's goal is to restore functionality after stroke, heart attack, fracture, amputation, head trauma and spinal cord injuries. Additional conditions treated at Cobble Hill include burns, dysphagia, aphasia and knee replacements. Cobble Hill Health Center was twice the recipient of the New York State Best Practices Award and serves as a demonstration project for the New York State Department of Health.

Ditmas Park Rehab/Care Center
Ditmas Park's trademarked "quick-n-out" rehab program emphasizes the "short" in short-term rehabilitation. The program's objective is to restore functionality, normality and independence to treated patients as soon as possible. Conditions treated at Ditmas Park include hip or knee replacements, amputation, arthritis debilitation, stroke, trauma to the brain and spinal cord and various sports-related injuries. While undergoing rehabilitation at Ditmas Park, patients reside in apartment-style dwellings complete with bedrooms, sitting rooms, lounges, dining areas and kitchenettes.

Eger Health Care and Rehabilitation Center
Founded in 1916 by and for Norwegian Americans, Eger Health Care and Rehabilitation Center has since come to serve peoples of all nationalities and backgrounds. Eger's short-term rehabilitation services include physical, occupational and speech language pathology services. Program participants include post-surgical patients recovering from knee surgery, fractures and various other orthopedic injuries and persons recovering from a debilitating disease, such as heart and renal disease. The aim of the program is restore patients to a level of activity sufficient to sustain them in everyday life. Additional services include specialized wound care, intravenous therapy, hospice care, respiratory services and adult day care.

Glen Cove Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation
Glen Cove, located on Long Island's north shore, is a 154-bed facility offering orthopedic rehabilitation services. Orthopedic surgeon Eugene S. Krauss is the director of the Center for Joint Replacements at Glen Cove, and surgeon Steven M. Erlanger specializes in reconstructive surgery of the shoulder, knee and hip. Glen Cove amenities include computers with Internet access, flat-screen TVs with movie channels, hospital socials, on-site hair salon, in-house cafe, ice cream parlor, concierge services and studio guest rooms.
