Repair A Sears Oven

Many people wouldn't think of trying to repair a Sears oven that's stopped working. And in some cases, that's a wise decision to make. But not every problem of a malfunctioning oven requires professional skills. Some problems are easy to fix. Maybe the clock has stopped working or the gas element doesn't ignite. Start by troubleshooting the power supply in your home and the supply coming into the oven. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Check your electricity supply if your oven stops altogether. Even gas ranges need electricity if they have electrical features such as an igniter, cooking timer, and self-cleaning option. If the oven light does not switch on, then check the relevant fuse in your house's breaker box. Alternatively, make sure that two breakers are supplying the 220-volt current the oven needs to heat properly.

2. Disconnect all power sources in the kitchen, including the oven, if the oven fails to heat. Unscrew the metal panel that protects the two power breakers. Tighten all screws in the panel---the power outlet, range breaker, and left and right heating elements. Replace the metal panel. Plug in the breakers and turn the oven's burners on to high until they become bright red.

3. Make sure the oven is baking. If not, inspect the bake igniter, which is near the burner. If the flame coming from the igniter is weak and the igniter does not get very hot, replace the gas safety valve or the bake igniter. Or make sure the settings on the oven's clock are properly set.

4. Examine the settings on your oven's clock if neither the oven nor the broiler heats up, but the burners on top of the stove are working. Sometimes the clock is set to self-clean. If the oven and broiler don't work after resetting the clock, consider replacing the thermostat.

5. Confirm that all burners on your gas oven light properly. If not, look for spots of grease on the burners that may prevent them from lighting. Or look for dirt covering the holes around the burners. Dirt clogs the holes, preventing the burners from igniting. 1)
