The costs of play equipment widely varies.
Many people install play equipment in their homes or yards for their children to enjoy. While the up-front costs of play equipment may seem obvious, there are several other factors to consider that can significantly raise the amount of money you'll end up spending on it. Coming up with a close estimate can help you better prepare for the cost of your play equipment. Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions
1. Find the play equipment set or model you'd like to purchase, and search retailers in your area to find who offers the best price. Visit or call toy stores, large discount stores and builders that specialize in play equipment.
2. Determine whether the area you plan to place the play equipment needs renovation or repair. Most play equipment is in backyards, which means you may need to landscape the area to get it ready. Get estimates from landscapers in your area for the cost to prepare your yard--most landscapers provide free estimates.
3. Pick out the protective coverings you will use for your play equipment--this is optional, but highly recommended if the play equipment will be located outdoors. Home improvement centers carry inexpensive tarps that can be placed over play equipment, or you can buy covers from the manufacturers of your chosen play equipment.
4. Figure out the cost of installation, if you will not be setting up the play equipment. Installation fees vary by company, and most installers are required to charge taxes on the services they provide. Get an estimate of the installation costs from the service provider you plan to use.
5. Add together the costs of the play equipment, coverings, installation and landscaping, if needed.
6. Calculate the amount of taxes you will need to pay, based on your state's sales tax rate, if applicable. For example, since Texas' sales tax rate is 8.25 percent, play equipment that cost $2,100, coverings that cost $21 and landscaping that cost $412 would be charged $208.97 in taxes.
7. Add the base cost for the equipment, installation, protective covers and landscaping, and the amount of taxes you would owe. This is the estimate of the total costs you will have to pay for your play equipment.
