Get Money From The Government

Uncle Sam Wants To Pay You!

Does the US Government owe you money? It very well might. The government distributes billions of dollars directly to citizens for a large variety of reasons, and through a great many different programs. These can be grants, pensions, refunds, unclaimed funds, legal settlements, or from a host of other sources. Here's check to see if Uncle Sam owes you big time.

Instructions

1. **Check With the Tax Authorities**

The IRS is one of the biggest distributors of federal largesse, sending out tax refund checks both large and small. For a variety of reasons, though, millions of dollars in refund checks are not properly delivered. Check to see if you have an undelivered refund check waiting for you.

You can also check with the IRS for your tax refund status, report tax violations (and maybe get a reward!), and check for undelivered government stimulus checks as well.

2. **Check With the Banks**

Has your bank gone under? The FDIC and the NCUA insure accounts at banks and credit unions, and will repay the bank to make sure your own account is protected up to the maximum amount. Check the FDIC and NCUA websites for more details...

3. **Take a Look at GovBenefits**

Govbenefits.gov is your one-stop source of information for benefits and assistance programs in areas like career assistance, child care help, counseling, disability, disaster relief, education, health benefits and many other areas. Definitely worth checking out.

And while you're at it, grants.gov covers the many grant programs sponsored by the federal government. Free money!

4. **Wait...There's More!**

Look into other miscellaneous programs as well that distribute millions of dollars. For instance, a group called the PBGC distributes unclaimed pension money. HUD and FHA refund some of the money people improperly were charged for mortgage insurance. The SEC distributes funds from class action lawsuits from shady investment deals.
