Level A Doublewide Mobile Home

Level a Double-wide Mobile Home

Making sure a double-wide home is level is not only necessary for your comfort. Damage can occur if one or both sections of the home are out of level. Checking your home to see whether it is level is not difficult or expensive. Correcting issues is a bit challenging, but it can be done and will save you money in the long run. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Place the marble on vinyl floor or other hard surface. If the marble rolls, you will know the home is out of level. Check this in several rooms. Alternatively, you can use a level that is at least 4 feet long to check level. You will need to use this method in any room that has carpeting.

2. Note all areas that are out of level. It is easiest if you begin with a list of your problem areas so you can concentrate on correcting issues without guessing where to work.

3. Locate foundation piers to be leveled. Although you may not know the exact pier causing the problem, it will be easier to find when you can narrow down the possible piers using your list.

4. Lift the home off the support pier using a hydraulic jack. This is necessary to give you room to shim the foundation pier to correct the level.

5. Shim the pier as much as you think it needs to be corrected. It will take time to fully correct leveling, but the end result is worth it.

6. Check the level in the area of the home you are attempting to correct. If the issue is corrected, move on to the next area that needs to be leveled. If it is not corrected, jack the home off the pier again and place more shim between the pier and the undercarriage of home.
