Repair A Sears Snow Thrower

Dig out after a big snowfall with a snow thrower.

The Sears Craftsman snow thrower is designed to help you remove snow buildup from your driveway and sidewalks without a shovel. However, it is possible that you may come across problems while using the thrower, such as the engine not starting, the engine running erratically, or the thrower not discharging snow. Fortunately, there are options available to you to try and solve these problems. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Check the fuel tank, if the engine fails to start. If the fuel level in the tank is low, or the tank is empty, re-fill the tank.

2. Check the choke knob, if the engine starts but runs erratically. Make sure to set it to the "Off" position.

3. Empty the fuel tank and re-fill it with fresh fuel. Old, stale fuel can cause the engine to run erratically.

4. Check the gas cap vent hole, if the blower suddenly experiences a loss of power. If it is blocked by snow or ice, remove the blockage.

5. Check the speed select lever, if the thrower does not propel itself. If it is set to "Neutral," change the setting to one of the five forward, or reverse speeds.

6. Check the blower's discharge chute, if it does not discharge snow. If you see snow or ice blocking the chute, stop the blower's engine and disconnect the spark plug wire. Remove the snow or ice buildup blocking the chute, then reconnect the spark plug wire and resume normal operation.
