Canadian Government Grants For Home Improvement

Canadian government grants allow for minor improvements to the homes of low-income citizens.

The Canadian government offers home improvement grants to its citizens to upgrade necessary appliances, make repairs to their homes, add some home adaptations for seniors and the like. Generally, grants are given to people in low-income or rural communities, but eligibility ranges by the zone in which a citizen lives. Grant amounts will vary depending upon type of grant and type of improvements that are needed.

ecoENERGY Retrofit

The ecoENERGY Retrofit offers home improvement grants to citizens, including monies to replace domestic hot water equipment. The goal of this program is to replace low-efficiency hot water systems with more modern and energy-efficient devices. Citizens may even be able to replace some dual space and water heating systems. Hot water equipment systems that can be used to replace current systems include the following: Energy Star qualified gas-fired tankless or on-demand systems with an energy factor of at least 0.82; solar hot water systems; Energy Star qualified condensing gas-fired tankless or on-demand systems with an energy factor of at least 0.90; and drain water heat recovery systems.

Grant monies range from $6,000 to $11,000, but it depends on what type of work needs to be done.
