Fix A Mobile Home Tub

Replacing a mobile home bathtub is a daunting task. Large tubs are normally installed before walls are built, and removing and replacing an existing tub often means taking the old tub apart in pieces that will fit through doorways and installing smaller replacement tubs. Expanding the life of your existing tub is the best solution to this problem. To expand the life of your existing tub, fix problems as soon as they occur and perform monthly checks for leaks. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Diagnose the problems. Wipe down all surfaces of the bathtub with a dry towel; wipe the basin and around the faucet, knobs and drain. See if water reappears and identify leaks. Look for small or large cracks in the tub basin that may be causing leaks.

2. Tighten all tub fixtures with a wrench to see if this will stop the leaking. Cover the fixtures with a towel to prevent damaging them.

3. Shut off the water in the house, drain the remaining water in the pipes and apply silicone sealant to the seams around the faucet, knobs, and drain. Do not apply the sealant over cracks in the tub basin but along installation seams only; the sealant will not work to stop leaks from cracks and may make fixing the cracks more challenging.

4. Fix small cracks in the tub basin by applying epoxy. Use the epoxy repair kit and included tools to apply the epoxy according to package directions. Allow the epoxy to dry for the specified amount of time before using the tub for bathing or showering.

5. Repair larger cracks with tub repair tape. Just stick the wide pieces of tape over the crack. You may need several pieces to cover cracks that curve or have corners. This repair method will not produce the most attractive results, but it will prevent you from having to replace the tub in your mobile home for a while.
