Download Free Pdf Books

You can download some PDF books free.

Books are one of life's greatest treasures. Books can be used as teaching tools or for entertainment. In addition to your local library, you can find several venues for free books. Online authors are constantly promoting their books by giving away free PDFs. Many classic books are also available for download to be read on your computer or on an electronic reading device. Downloading PDF books is easy and convenient. You just have to know where to look.

Instructions

Where to Look

1. Visit your favorite author's website. Some authors, such as young adult novelist Maureen Johnson, offer free e-books to promote their newest book. Johnson offered her novel "Suite Scarlet" for fans to download for a limited time in spring 2010. Sometimes the authors don't offer the full books, but occasionally will offer a few chapters to sample the new book.

2. Check out a few websites that offer free e-books. Project Gutenberg offers more than 33,000 free e-books. Its selection includes classics such as "Pride and Prejudice" by Jane Austen and "The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes" by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. History buffs will be able to find nonfiction published centuries ago.

3. Access your local library's website and check under its free online libraries. Most libraries offer special online access to other libraries full of information. From these websites you can usually find specialized and detailed how-to sites that offer free e-books on a given subject, such as quilting, gardening or home repair.

4. Start a new folder on your computer's hard drive and call it "Books" or something similar if you don't already have a folder set up for e-book storage on your computer. The best place to put it is under "My Documents."

5. Click on the download link for the e-book of your choice and wait for your computer to initiate the download.

6. Click "Save File." Save the book to your recently created Books folder.

7. Access the book by going into "My Documents" and clicking the Books folder. Open the book and wait for the PDF to load. Now you can read your book right on your computer.

8. Move the book or copy it to an external device by right-clicking the file in your Books folder. Select "Copy" or "Move." Keep in mind that if you move the file you will no longer have it on your computer. Select your device from the drop-down menu to place the e-book in your reader. Now you can read the book on your Kindle, iPad or other e-reading device.
