Texas schools are now offering classes in wind energy.
Texas has surpassed California as the leading state in wind generation farms, and Texas community colleges, technical schools and universities now offer a variety of wind technology curriculum. Many schools provide degrees or certificates that can directly qualify graduates for work on a wind farm.
Amarillo College
Amarillo College is a community college with six campuses and outreach facilities in Amarillo and three surrounding Panhandle counties. Courses include basic and advanced courses in wind generation, from history to design and tower rescue training, to wind turbine components, troubleshooting and repair, power delivery and wind business. Graduates can earn a two-year Associates of Applied Science degree in renewable energy/wind, or a basic or advanced wind energy technician certificate.

Clarendon College
Clarendon College is 60 miles east of Amarillo in Clarendon, Texas. Course work includes introductory courses in wind generator technology, environmental regulation interpretation, DC and AC circuits, troubleshooting and repair, wind business and delivery systems. Graduates of the two-year program receive an A.A.S. in Wind Energy.

Midland College
Midland College is a community college in the heart of West Texas. MC offers an A.A.S. in energy technology/wind that provides training in troubleshooting, electrical and mechanical installation and maintenance. MC graduates can choose between and emphasis in petroleum energy or wind energy. Students can also opt for one- to three-semester certificates for energy or wind technician.

Texas State Technical Institute West Texas
Texas State Technical Institute is a technical college with branches in Harlingen, Marshal, Sweetwater and Waco. TSTI West Texas, in Sweetwater, Texas, collaborates with Texas Tech University and the Texas Wind Energy Institute to offer an A.A.S. degree in Wind Energy and Turbine Technology. TSTIWT graduates can also earn various levels of certificates in wind energy technology. Courses include principles of wind energy, hydraulics and pneumatics, DC-AC circuits, basic fluid power and wind safety.

Texas Tech University
Texas Tech offers interdisciplinary graduate programs and a PhD in wind science and engineering, which includes course work related to wind generator technology as well as atmospheric science. TTU also offers wind energy undergraduate courses such as introduction, social impact, site assessment and modeling, wind turbine aerodynamics and wind energy development and construction. Texas Tech also operates the Texas Wind Energy Institute in partnership with Texas State Technical College; its primary emphasis is on wind energy safety. Texas Tech offers Internet Video Conferencing courses on wind technology at the Texas Tech building in Abilene.

Other
Other Texas universities, such as Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, offer coursework in renewable energy and wind energy generation as part of their agricultural curriculum. The University of Texas School of Law recently added the first law school course in the nation on wind law, entitled Wind Energy and Other Renewables.
