Learn Car Audio & Video Repair

If you have a fascination and love of working with car audio and video components, you might think about becoming an installation and repair technician. In this field, you can work for an automobile dealership, a retail consumer electronics store or open your own specialty retail store. Audio and video techs are in constant demand to troubleshoot devices, uninstall old components and upgrade vehicles with new components.


Instructions


1. Read up on car audio and video installation and troubleshooting. Go to the local library and check out books that deal with the subject matter of modern automobile audio and video repair and installation. Read magazines dealing with new car audio and video components.


2. Attend a technical school or college. Find a nearby college or technical school that has courses in general automotive repair and specific courses teaching troubleshoot, repair, install and uninstall automobile video and audio devices.


3. Apprentice at a consumer electronics retail store. Most home electronics stores, such as Best Buy, have installation techs that deal nearly exclusively with installation and repair of car audio and video components. Also consider working at a car dealership. Apply to work a part-time or full-time position to learn from experienced technicians.
