Air Conditioner Repair Tools

HVAC professionals use a variety of tools for repair.

HVAC, or Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning, can be one of the most challenging repairs made in the home. Most HVAC professionals will attend a community college or a trade school to learn the engineering behind the profession. If you are experienced with HVAC or have an interest in repairing your own unit, there are several tools that you will need in order to do the work involved. Does this Spark an idea?

Common Tools

All HVAC repairs will include common tools found around the home. These will be screwdrivers, channel locks, and pliers. All AC units are held together with screws on the unit casing. Screwdrivers will give you the ability to remove these screws. Channel locks and pliers will give you ability to remove any rusted bolts or wire assemblies inside the unit.

Digital Clamp Meters

Digital clamp meters are used to judge the amount of voltage going to the AC unit. When the voltage of the unit is incorrect, the unit will not work properly. The voltage on a unit could be the cause of the unit not working hard enough or working to hard to accomplish the right temperature inside the home.

Tubing

The air coming and going from the AC unit is transported through tubes. All HVAC repairmen will have experience replacing or repairing these tubes. When a tube is faulty or leaking, the air will escape from the system and leave the home unbalanced. Replacing the tubing in the house will give the unit its stability back.

Anemometers

Anemometers are tools used to judge the velocity of the air coming from the AC unit’s fan and air ducts. Some anemometers can also give the temperature of the air coming from the unit. This is one of the most important tools to any HVAC professional.
