Grants For Senior Homes

Senior citizens must typically be at least 62 years of age to qualify for housing grants.

Several types of federal and private grants exist for elderly citizens who are looking to find or maintain suitable housing. Some grants are also available for not-for-profit organizations or lenders looking to offer housing options to senior citizens.

Low-Income Repair and Rehabilitation Grants for the Elderly

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) offers financial resources to senior citizens who need housing options. HUD administers financial aid to seniors who need to make repairs to their residences in order to stay in their homes. Applicants must be at least 62 years old to qualify for the grants.

Mortgage Insurance-Rental Housing for the Elderly

HUD also offers Mortgage Insurance-Rental Housing grants for the elderly under authorization of the National Housing Act. The grants insure against loss on building mortgages for owners and developers who rent to senior citizens. The grants are designed to increase the number of rental housing facilities open to elderly and disabled renters.

Milton Fund for Senior Housing

Some private organizations set up funds to provide housing to seniors. For example, the Robert P. and Clara I. Milton Fund for Senior Housing funds projects and programs dedicated to improving senior housing options.
