Fix Fender Rust Out Spots On A Honda

Rust on your Honda is not only unattractive, but can cause holes in the metal of the car.

Having rust spots on your Honda can not only make it less attractive, but can increase in size over time and eat through the metal of the car. Fixing a rust spot requires more than just scraping off the rust, you must also repaint and protect the area so that it does not rust in that area again. Fixing a rust out spot in your Honda is not a difficult task to do on your own.

Instructions

1. Spray on a aerosol lubricant onto the rust spot and rub it into the rust with a rag. This will help to remove some of the rust. Wipe off the excess lubricant.

2. Sand the remaining rust with sandpaper. Wear safety goggles and a face mask to avoid dust getting in eyes, mouth, and nose. A sander can also be used to get hard to remove rust off. Wipe off dust with the lint free rag. A lint free rag will ensure that thread and lint do not become adhered to the area, which would affect the application of paint onto the Honda.

3. Spray a rust inhibitor to the surface that you have sanded down. Allow approximately 90 minutes to dry. The rust inhibitor spray also serves double duty as a primer.

4. Paint touch up paint on the area that has been sanded. Call your Honda dealer and let them know what model Honda you have. They will be able to tell you what color paints were used on your car in that year. The auto parts store will be able to match that color. Apply two coats to the car. Allow time in between coats to dry.

5. Spray on a clear coat onto the newly painted area. Strokes should overlap to avoid lines. Apply in quick strokes to avoid dripping. Allow time to dry in between coats, apply three coats in all.
