Home Foundation Slab Crack Repair

House foundation slabs are made of concrete.


Occasionally concrete foundations crack because of ground settling and movement. Your home's foundation is under constant stress from the ground below it and from the weight of the home above it. This stress causes foundation separation, cracks and failure. Some cracks are warning signs for larger problems so always have all foundation cracks assessed by a professional before repairing. Instructions


1. Clean the floor by vacuuming up debris with a shop vacuum.


2. Chip away any loose concrete from the crack with a chisel and hammer. Vacuum the debris with the shop vacuum.


3. Follow the manufacturer's instructions on mix the vinyl floor patching compound. Mix a small amount of the compound in a bucket.


4. Apply the compound to the crack with a smooth-edge trowel. Overfill the crack with compound. Feather the compound so it is flush with the rest of the foundation's surface.


5. Allow the compound to set to the manufacturer's recommendations. Scrape the floor with a floor scraper to smooth the patch.
