Cell Phone Water Damage Repair

Cell phones can become damaged by water from rain, going through the washing machine or being dropped in water. Even humidity and condensation can damage a phone. There are some basic repairs you can do to try and fix a cell phone that gets wet.

Removal

Upon realizing the phone has become wet, you should immediately remove it from the water. Damage to a cell phone can occur within 20 seconds.

Battery

To repair a phone damaged by water you should remove the battery from the device as quickly as possible. This will help prevent the circuit board from being ruined.

Drying

Another action you can take is drying the cell phone off with a soft cloth. The phone can also be put near a device that gives off warm, dry air, such as a hair dryer, to dry it out.

Set Aside

Keeping the cell phone off and leaving it out to dry for a few days uncovered and with any protective case and the battery removed, will allow it to dry out.

Water Absorbing Products

Another tip for repairing a wet cell phone is to place it in a baggie or cup with rice or silica. These products absorb the moisture in the phone.

Alcohol

Placing the phone in an alcohol solution removes water, too. The phone should be completely covered by the alcohol and it is helpful to shake the container a little. Be sure to use a denatured alcohol that is made only with methanol. This process of drying is best used on a phone that has been dropped into saltwater or coffee.
