Repair Low Spots In A Cement Driveway

When you keep a heavy object in one location on your cement driveway, especially during the spring when the ground is soft, low spots can occur. Settling of the ground or erosion under the driveway can also cause low spots. You can repair low spots by adding a cement or concrete mix to level the driveway or create a drain to keep water from leaving a puddle. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

Apply Concrete Patch

1. Roughen the surface of the driveway using a chisel and a small handheld sledge.

2. Drill several small holes, about two inches deep, into the surface of the driveway using a masonry bit with a power drill.

3. Brush off debris and other loose material from the driveway using a broom.

4. Spray water on the driveway, to wash away any remaining dirt and debris, with a garden hose.

5. Add cement or concrete mix into a bucket with water. You will want to have a wet mix that has the consistency of thick soup so it can easily be leveled. Follow the instructions on the package to properly mix the cement or concrete mix.

6. Pour the cement or concrete mix over the low spots in the driveway and then drag a straight edge over the patch to make it level.

7. Smooth out the patch, if necessary, with a trowel so that it will blend in with the existing cement.

Create a Drain

8. Cut out a hole in the cement using a circular saw with a diamond tip blade. Make the hole at least two feet square in the center of the low spot by measuring with a tape measure.

9. Remove the cut section of cement and dig out the dirt with a shovel to a depth of two to three feet.

10. Insert landscape felt to line the sides and bottom of the hole.

11. Place crushed stone into the hole and fill it to the top.

12. Set a metal grate that is two feet square on top of the crushed stone to complete the project.
