Federal Home Improvment Assistance

The federal government provides grants for home improvement.

Many homeowners live in unsafe and unhygienic living conditions because they do not have the financial capability to make the necessary changes to their homes. The government has created certain grants for those on low incomes to improve their housing.

HUD

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) is the main housing agency for the government. It provides grants to community-based and nonprofit organizations that assist those on low incomes. These groups then aid low-income homeowners to improve their homes.

Ethnic Agencies

Some organizations that aid ethnic minorities to improve their living conditions partner with HUD to help residents of particular communities. HUD supports policy advantageous to American Indians and Alaskan Natives housing needs. One of the grants available is The Indian Housing Assistance Grant, sponsored by the Indian Health Service.

Rural Housing

Sometimes those of a certain age, such as seniors, do not have the financial resources to adequately deal with housing needs. The Rural Development Grant, provided by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, gives help to seniors who are at least 62 and have incomes of 50 percent less than the median income of the specific area.
