Fix A Cell Phone

As cell phones become more popular than landlines these days, this technology comes with its own set of frustrations. If you are unable to place a call or get cut off in the middle of a conversation, the problem may be easy to fix. Before contacting your cell phone provider for assistance, here are a few basic troubleshooting techniques that you can try yourself first.

Instructions

1. Hang up if a call won't go through. Often, it is simply a case of the network being too busy. Most times a call will go through if you try it again just a few minutes later.

2. Replace the battery if your phone fails to charge, especially if the battery has been in the phone for more than one year. Although a cell phone battery can last for between one and two years on average, as the battery gets older, it begins to hold a charge for less time.

3. Charge your phone only every other day. It may sound to the contrary, but you could be charging it too often. While most cell phone batteries will hold a charge for about three days, many people get in the unnecessary habit of charging their phones every day.

4. Let the battery go low before recharging it. Even let the battery run down completely on occasion. Charging your phone too frequently can actually drain power and decrease the overall lifetime of the battery.

5. Keep the phone at room temperature. Try not to leave it in your vehicle during the daytime or overnight, as both extreme hot and cold temperatures can drain the battery. If you do leave your cell phone in the car sometimes, keep it out of direct sunlight and cover it with something in cold weather.

6. Check to make sure that your keypad is not locked. While this feature is meant to prevent buttons from being pressed when the cell phone is in your pocket or purse accidentally activating a number, you need to remember to unlock it before use.

7. Shut off the phone and immediately remove the battery if it gets wet. Do not turn the phone, as this could cause a short circuit. Get it dry as quickly as possible. If the phone was immersed in salt water, wash both the battery and the phone in distilled water to remove salty residue to prevent corrosion. Allow the phone to dry out for a few days before replacing the battery back in the phone and trying it.
