Fix Your Iphone At Home

Fix Your iPhone at Home

Fix your broken iPhone at home to avoid a trip to the Apple store or Mac repair specialist or, if your device is out of warranty, to avoid incurring the out-of-pocket cost of repairing it. Some iPhone problems don't require the device to be physically taken apart or have new parts installed into it, so not all repairs require the handiwork of an iPhone expert.

Instructions

1. Fill a plastic bag halfway with rice and place a powered-off iPhone that has been water damaged into the bag. Fill the remainder of the bag with rice, seal it and allow it to sit for 24 hours. Remove the iPhone from the bag and plug it in to its charger. In many cases, drying out an iPhone that has become wet -- rice is ideal for doing so, since it is absorbent and gentle -- results in the device working again.

2. Hold down the "Home" and "Lock" buttons at the same time -- and don't release until an "Apple" appears on the screen -- to restart an iPhone that has become frozen. Just as is the case with computers, iPhones "freeze" from time to time when they get overloaded. Restarting an iPhone fixes the freeze.

3. Update the iPhone's carrier software and operating system regularly to ensure continued normal function. Plug the phone into the computer, wait for iTunes to open and click "Yes" when iTunes prompts you to update either of these softwares.

4. Tap the "App Store" icon, then tap "Updates" to see and download updates for apps that are malfunctioning. If your Facebook app crashes immediately after launching it, it is due to a software version issue that is easily solvable, without the assistance of an Apple representative.

5. Restore an iPhone that has stopped functioning normally to its factory settings. Plug the iPhone into the computer's USB port. Open iTunes if it doesn't launch automatically, then click the "Restore" button under the "Version" tab. Choose "Yes" when iTunes prompts you to back up the iPhone's data, then click the "Restore" button and wait for the device to power back on. Right-click the name of the iPhone in the iTunes sidebar and choose "Restore from Backup" to place your date back on the iPhone. Restoring an iPhone to factory settings remedies many of its operational issues.
