Power Wash Mold Off House

Home maintenance involves not only the interior of a home, but also the exterior. If a homeowner takes the time to inspect the outside of his home, he likely will see at least one area that needs attention. For instance, upon inspecting his siding or brick, he may notice mold growth that has resulted from damp or humid conditions. Mold growing on the exterior of a home can actually be carried inside the home by the wind and cause health problems for inhabitants. Periodic power washing is a solution for eliminating the presence of mold, and will help keep your home's exterior clean and attractive. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Caulk or fill all cracks or openings in the exterior material of your house. Use the appropriate product for your particular exterior, and follow the product instructions for application and drying time.

2. Remove all loose objects from the exterior of your home and place plastic sheeting over bushes and flower beds to avoid contact with the cleaning solution.

3. Turn off the power to all exterior lights and outlets and cover with plastic. Secure the plastic with waterproof tape.

4. Check to see that all windows and doors are securely closed, and remove window screens if possible.

5. Mix an environmentally safe mold cleaning solution in a bucket according to the manufacturer's instructions. Place the detergent injector hose of the power washer into the bucket and attach a low pressure nozzle to the spray gun.

6. Put on safety gloves and goggles, and connect a garden hose to the pressure washer. Apply the cleaning solution to a 10-foot-by-10-foot section of the house, paying special attention to areas with mold growth.

7. Spread the cleaning solution with a scrub brush, if necessary, and allow the solution to remain on the surface for 3 to 5 minutes.

8. Attach a high pressure nozzle to the spray gun and rinse away the cleaning solution. Repeat steps 6 to 8 on other sections of the house until the job is completed.
