Repair An Audio Cd Player

CD players are highly susceptible to dust issues.

CD players changed the way the music industry distributed music by making large format music, such as LPs, available on small discs. A CD player uses a laser mounted on an arm to read information burned onto a compact disc. It is important to check the state of the compact disc before attempting to troubleshoot or repair the CD player. A heavily scratched disc, or one covered in fingerprints and grease will not play properly. Check the CD player if the disc is in good shape. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Open the disc drawer and unplug the unit. Stick the nozzle from a can of compressed air inside the unit and press the trigger to remove excess dust. Plug the CD player back in and test with a CD you know works. Excess dust will prevent a CD from reading.

2. Unplug the unit and remove the screws to the housing. Pull up gently on the housing and lift up the hold-down clamp to expose the lens. Remove dust with a soft brush and replace the housing. Test again. Remove the housing again if this doesn't work and remove the lens according to the build of the model. Replace with a new lens.

3. Open the disc drawer of the unit if it is having issues opening and closing and remove the housing of the unit. Inspect the drawer belt for signs of damage or a lack of elasticity. Use tweezers to remove the belt and clean it with a lint-free cloth. Replace with a new belt if needed.
