Block Certain People From Calling My Home Phone

A home telephone.

Receiving unwanted calls on your home phone can be both distracting and annoying. Unwanted phone calls waste your time, whether they're from a telemarketer or someone you don't want to talk to. Depending on how drastic of measures you wish to take, you have a few options to stop unwanted calls to your home phone. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Register your number with the National Do Not Call Registry (see resources). This is a government-regulated service that will put your phone number on telemarketers' do-not-call list. If you still continue to receive calls from a telemarketer after the first 31 days, contact the Do Not Call Registry and you may be entitled to a settlement.

2. Sign up for Caller ID. For a small monthly fee, your phone company will provide you with Caller ID. While this may not completely stop someone from calling you, you will be able to record the phone number and report it to your carrier.

3. Call your local phone company and sign up for the Privacy Manager service. This works with Caller ID to block or reject "private" and "anonymous" numbers. If a person with a private or anonymous number calls you, he will receive a message to unblock his number to continue the call. Even if the person does unblock the number for you to see, Privacy Manager will still give you the option of blocking the number from calling you again.
