Repair A Wrestling Mat

Reparing a wrestling mat is usually simple.

Wrestling mats provide padding for the grapplers as they throw each other to the mat and maneuver for a pin . The mats also give the wrestlers traction so they can utilize their technique. Holes and cuts to the mat can be dangerous since they can snag a finger or toe and can also become breeding grounds for bacteria. Repairing a wrestling mat needs to be done immediately to prevent injury or illness to the competitors.

Instructions

1. Apply an antiseptic to any openings in the mat before repairing them to kill off any bacteria that could be growing in them. Make sure the antiseptic you use can kill staph, which is a common and very dangerous bacteria that frequently forms on wrestling mats.

2. Apply the glue to any cuts in the mat. This will bond the two sides of the cut together and seal the opening.

3. Use caulking compound to fill in any larger holes or depressions in the mat. Allow the mat to dry overnight. Caulking compound can dry in several hours but the glue requires 12 hours or more to make sure the bonding is strong.

4. Paint over the repairs with vinyl paint. Keep the room ventilated since vinyl paint has very strong fumes.

5. Leave the paint to dry for at least 24 hours before using the mat again.
